Work to integrate the MBDA Storm Shadow cruise missile onto the Eurofighter Typhoon combat aircraft has begun in Italy, it was announced on 28 November.

Alenia Aermacchi commenced flight trials the day prior aboard the twin-seat Instrumented Production Aircraft 2 (IPA2) updated to the Phase 1 Enhancement standard. Eurofighter partner companies BAE Systems and Cassidian are assisting with the trials at Decimomannu Air Base in Sardinia.

爱列尼亚·艾尔马奇公司已开始将海外的双座已装配仪表的生产型升级为第一阶段的增强型。欧洲战斗机公司的成员BAE系统公司和欧洲宇航公司协助这一位于意大利代奇莫曼努空军基地的改造。

The 1,300 kg Storm Shadow missile is being integrated onto the Typhoon as part of the Phase 2 Enhancement programme to introduce new combat capabilities to the multirole platform. It has a published range 'in excess' of 250 km.

1300千克的风暴阴影导弹将与台风多功能战机平台的第二阶段增强型相整合以增加新的战斗能力。它具有“超过”（原文如此）250千米的射程。

Work should be complete by 2015, at which time it should be ready for operational use by the UK Royal Air Force and Italian Air Force (Aeronautica Militare Italiana - AMI), both of which currently field the missile from their Panavia Tornado GR.4 and IDS platforms respectively. The Royal Saudi Air Force has recently received the Storm Shadow missile, and will also be looking to integrate the missile onto its Typhoons.

At 5.1 m in length, 63 cm wide, and 48 cm high, the Storm Shadow is a large weapon system that induces a lot of drag on the aircraft, limiting the Typhoon's operational range. This is exacerbated by the fact that the missile's size means it can only be carried on the two underwing pylons which normally accommodate drop tanks. To help offset these range limiting properties of the Storm Shadow and Typhoon combination, Eurofighter has developed conformal (or blister) tanks, which can be fitted to any Tranche 2 aircraft.

5.1米长，63厘米宽，48厘米高，风暴阴影导弹绝对是个大杀器，但限制了台风战机的作战范围。这一现实决定了它只能被挂在原本应挂副油箱的翼下挂点。为了解决这一问题，欧洲战斗机公司开发了台风战机的保形油箱，每架战机可以装两个。
