Berlin (AFP) - Intelligence suggests thatSyrian President Bashar al-Assad is building a secret underground plant withthe aim of developing nuclear weapons, Germany's Spiegel news magazine saidFriday.

Citing information made available byunidentified intelligence sources, Spiegel said the plant was in aninaccessible mountain region in the west of the war-ravaged country, twokilometres (1.2 miles) from the Lebanese border.
