Token white man in China reporting in.
This was a massive story this morning in China, every news channel was reporting the kids name, home city and many talking heads talking about "China's Tourist Shame" when going overseas.
The majority of Chinese know their countrymen are shit heads when going overseas, blame it on rising incomes and ever cheaper tour packages that take them in massive numbers to popular destinations, the stereotype of bad Chinese tourists is here to stay for now but it will ultimately change over time. Eventually.

There should be a special kind of criminal offense for this kind of vandalism. If you mess up something intentionally that's a national/cultural treasure you should be subject to the punishment of the time the thing you're defacing was created.

I am a big traveler and I have to say that Chinese tourists are among the worst I have ever seen. I have never seen this kind of behavior from adults before. I feel wrong saying it but it can get pretty comical.
The hotel manager (from a highly regarded chain) said that, "They are usually so rude, loud, and unruly that we try and keep them all on one floor and away from other guests. Meals can be a nightmare."

Chinese & Russian travellers are often from the wealthier end of their own society. Especially in China, boasting about one's social status is not "wrong", but more or less expected, and pushing "lesser" people around is part of the deal. Then they go abroad and act like assholes without understanding it is no longer socially acceptable.

I was in line once at a local deli which is one of the go-to eats for tourists in the area. I was the next person in line and this Chinese guy in a suit on his cellphone just stepped right in front of me, bypassing the other 20 people in line. I said, "Hey, you just cut the entire line." He responded with a wave of his hand and "I'm more important".
I was having a shitty day and was a good bit bigger than him, so I picked him up and carried him over my shoulder to the back of the line. He started to get angry, but then he just looked defeated, like nobody had ever stood up to his crap before and he really didn't know how to respond.
