I'm a Global Times reader. I have to admit the media you mentioned rarely report bad news. But this is understandable because they are state-run. I cannot imagine a state-run newspaper reports bad news everyday, even in US.
So I'm reading CNN these days to listen different voices. Just let all of us be more objective. China has good things as well as bad things, same in US.

By the way, I don't advocate media to be objective, because everyone, media included, is entitled to opinions, probably multiple conflicting on the same subject. I do think there should be freedom of press and freedom of exression so that people can access vass varieties of opinions, no matter how ultracious and illogical, to form their own. Asking one person to write balanced and objective comments is nuts.
I am all for turning CNN into a state run media so that we can express our opinion without rude interruption.

China made tens of thousands of people get ride of poverty and has achieved outstanding progress in almost every fields; China also becomes more open than before, you can discuss everything there including government and country leaders as long as you do not intend to overthrow the authority.
I admit there are still lots of problems in China, corruption, pollution..., but China is in process of improvements. Compare today to days twenty or even ten years ago, you can find the huge changes. Sorry for my poor English.

I want to tell you you can post anything (except regime overthrow) you see in China in microblogs and forums, such as disaster, corruption, pollution. No one will arrest you. Normally we don't post things in newspaper, because it needs a long time to publish and often I think it's unncessary, internet is a good place to tell things.

I have never said anything about lack of freedom of speech in China in this thread. But thanks for the "No 300 taels of silver here" confession. But from more reliable sources, such as CCP, the situation is quite different from what you described. Should check with you employer more often. But by 1860, Chinese were afraid of European guns. Is that how would more hundreds of years will let China improve ?

I follow you on most things but on the marijuana thing you are showing your ignorance. The discussion is not whether marijuana is good or bad. Marijuana is a plant, it is as good and as bad as a rock. Its use can also be good or bad, depending on what you consider good or bad for you. What is being argued is whether banning it is good or bad for society. Since the vast majority of countries are waiting to see what the US does and how it works out so they can use it as an example to make their own decision, I would say that is a very bad example of things that are wrong in the US.

Marijuana is a plant, it is as good and as bad as a rock. Its use can also be good or bad, depending on what you consider good or bad for you. What is being argued is whether banning it is good or bad for society. Since the vast majority of countries are waiting to see what the US does and how it works out so they can use it as an example to make their own decision, I would say that is a very bad example of things that are wrong in the US.

The Liaoning is thus largely a training carrier but a significant pointer as to the direction China's sea-power is heading.
