Turkey should make a decision in April on its negotiations to buy the Chinese HQ-9 long-range air and missile defence system for its T-Loramids programme, a senior Turkish official has said.
Murad Bayar, head of Turkey's Defence Industries Undersecretariat (SSM), made the comments on 27 February during a Franco-Turkish defence industry day in Ankara.
"Our talks with China continue and we have a target of finalising a decision on this issue by early April," Bayer said. He also noted that Turkey has extended the shelf-life of the Franco/Italian Eurosam SAMP/T and US Raytheon Patriot bids, which came second and third in the T-Loramids competition respectively, to the end of April.
