青岛社认为Iowa级加强了防护但无法有效抵挡自身的主炮，等于同时认为SD级的防护也无法做到这一点。个人觉得舰船社认为SD和Iowa无法有效防护自身的406mm主炮的观点并不严谨。众所周知美国的406mm舰炮可以发射1020kg的轻弹和1225kg的重弹，而SD设计时的目的之一就是要改善北卡罗来纳级防护不足的问题。如果连轻弹都不能有效防护，SD又怎么能投入建造？更何况美国的轻弹重量已经超过了欧洲各国新式战列舰的炮弹重量。
PS：我对于SD和Iowa的侧舷防护数据有些糊涂。舰船知识上给的数据是“X+Y”的模式（其中X很大，Y只有10-20），而青岛社直接给了一个厚度。请问舰船知识的表示方法出处是啥？还有这两级在能够有效防护自身轻弹的前提下能否有效防护自身的重弹？还有两级舰的侧舷厚度是否一致。

The Iowas' armor scheme was modeled on that of the preceding South Dakota class, and designed to give a zone of immunity against fire from 16-inch/45-caliber guns between 18,000 and 30,000 yards (16,000 and 27,000 m) away. The magazines and engine rooms were protected by an armored belt 12.2 inches (310 mm) thick, which sloped to give an effective vertical thickness of 13.5 inches (340 mm).
