China has even signed joint declarations with many the small countries about the South China Sea. The approach China proposed 20 years ago is to set aside the disputes, jointly develop the area for mutual benefits while retaining sovereignty rights.
But these countries are cunning. Despite they signed the joint declaration, they gradually occupied some islands, and harrassed and killed Chinese fishermen. They expelled Chinese fishermen from their traditional fishing grounds and islands, and destroyed shelters and temples builts by Chinese fishermen in the past centuries.China is the only party of the joint declaration that observed the mutually agreed rules. None of these smaller countries put a freeze on their illegal activities, while China stupidly observed the terms of the joint declaration.
China protested every time these countries infringed upon its sovereignty rights. But China did not take military actions. These countries such as Vietnam is cunning. When China protested, it stopped its actions for a while. After a while, it began another round of territorial infringement and harrassment of Chinese fishermen. That is why Vietnam can take possession of 20+ islands over 20-plus years.
Note that Vietnam has occupied these islands for only 20-plus years. In contrast, these islands are traditionally Chinese territories and no countries had disputed that until 1975. Chinese control, for instance, by Republic of China （Taiwan） dated back to many decades since its establishment in 1911, and then after end of WWII in 1945.
North Vietnam government before 1974 had explicitly recognised People's Republic of China sovereignty over the islands.This round of dispute is caused by Vietnam, and the Phillipines but not People's Republic of China or ROC（Taiwan）。
Unfortunately, the USA is behind this dispute, and the media of USA and those of its allies have twisted the story.China always （and without exception） respects safe passage. China never tries to monopolise the sea route. This whole event is orchestrated by USA and Vietnam together with anti-China forces.

You, my friend, are living in the past on most of what you say and know very little about their history. If you did, you wouldn't say what you have said. In order to start to understand China you need to learn about their history, culture, traditions, government and the way the average citizen thinks.
My proof is not in the words I say, but to challenge you to come here for a year or so to find out for yourself. That can be an all expenses paid trip to teach English as a second language where 300 million of their people are doing that. China is hungry for native speakers. 9 years ago I first set foot in China, honestly scared, not wanting to be there, and couldn't wait to get out.By my second day, I had realized I'd been fed a lot of crap by my government and media. I then set out on a quest to find out about the real China. After living here for 5 years, I've come to the conclusion that what most in the west think they know of China would fit in a barrel, what they really know would fit in a thimble.
And China is a lot closer to what you think she should be and a lot further from what you think she is.We are often so critical of China while not paying attention to what we are. Hillary Clinton complains about China's human rights record, and while our domestic record is probably better, our international record is horrible.
China is nowhere near being perfect, but they have a very good handle on their problems. Their country is unified in ways that make me jealous, their people are happy and see a bright future, they don't have all the partisanship and political BS that is tearing us apart and they are united in a common couse to bring China into the future.It is not who will win, it is America will defeat itself through its own excesses. Democracy is wonderful, but it does have its limits and we have taken it that far and then some.
We should pay very close attention as to how China is doing this and learn from their own game. China is very goal oriented plus and once their legislature passes a law, everyone gets behind it to make it work. In the USA, we groan, complain and demand change even before the ink is dry.I could go on and on but I hope you get the message. China will not defeat us, we are doing that very well all by ourselves.What I fear, at the rate we are going, with no goals, only blind partisanship, that if we do not change our ways, the USA, in 25 to 50 years will cease to exist. 9年前，我第一次来到中国，感到恐惧，不想呆在这里，迫不及待地想要离开。我在这里的第二天就意识到以前自己被政府和媒体灌输了太多的偏见，于是我决定重新认识一个真正的中国。我在这里生活了5年之后，我得出这样的结论：西方人认为他们对中国无所不知，可他们实际上的了解也就冰山一角而已。
中国与你意料之外的非常接近，而与你印象之中的却很遥远。我们通常在指责中国的同时却忽视了自身的问题。希拉里克林顿谴责中国的人权纪录，然而我们国内的纪录或许还好，国际纪录却糟透了。
中国做的还远远不够，但他们有一套非常好的解决问题的机制。整个国家团结一致让我心生羡慕，人民都很快乐，有着光明的未来，他们完全没有困扰着我们国家的党派偏见和政治谎言，他们团结在带领中国走进未来的目标下。这不是谁赢的问题，美国会被自己的过激行为所打败。民主是个好东西，但也有它的局限性，我们在这条路上走得太远并且远不止此。
我们应该密切注意中国是如何做得并从他们身上学习。中国的目标非常明确，一旦他们的立法机关通过一项法律，每个人都会立即遵照执行。在美国，（签署法律的）墨迹未干之前我们要不停地指责、抱怨、要求改变。我会不断地继续（抱怨）下去直到得到确切的消息。中国不会打败我们，我们可以做的很好。我担心的是，没有目标只有党派偏见，如果我们不加以调整，以我们目前前进的速度，美国将在25到50年之内不复存在，也许更早。

The only part I disagree with is the bit about democracy being wonderful. Democracy is what you make it.
A good unelected government wins hands down over a bad elected government that can only be replaced with more of the same especially when the elected government only has the suport of a minority of the potential voters and the unelected government has the consent of the majority of the public.

I used to be a huge supporter of democracy world-wide. But after seeing what has happened in Afghanistan and Iraq, I have come to the conclusion that democracy is good for some, but not for all.
Of course democracy is what you make it and I think we have taken it to an excess. What it boils down too is we simply do not know when to shut up. It produces gridlock and while some think that's great because it causes the government to be ineffective and self defeating because of those excesses. But it also results in stupid laws being passed, some that even make us less than what we say we are. The Patriot Act and the War on Drugs to name two.We also have a campaign season that is far to long and run more on slogans and personalities than issues.
What most don't know in the west is China does indeed have democracy where up to 80% of the people participate. It's done on a rotating bases at the province （state） level. There is no national election day. Mayors up to representatives in their congress in Beijing are elected. True, it is a one party system, but there are hardliners to liberals. Thus, this works well for China because China seems to like slow change. In our system, every few years we can have a radical shift from one extreme to another. Thus producing gridlock. In their system they don't have that problem, plus having a one party system there is no one size fits all overall belief, that is, till laws are passed, in which case, those opposed or supportive come together for the good of the whole. That is why their votes in their congress is so lopsided, because the debates have ended, they have decided and unified for the good of the country. We, on the other hand, block, politicize, blame and on and on and on till hell freezes over.
I'm not saying their system is perfect, but it has proven to be very affective from bringing China from a totalitarian state to enjoying considerable freedom all while lifting millions of their people from poverty to middle class, and their country from the bottom of the economic heap to close to the top, all in the span of 60 years.
Where they lack is free speech. While they can say anything they want privately, they can't stand on a soapbox making political speeches, especially ones that are critical of their government. But on the other hand, we have free speech, but what good is that free speech when no one is listening? I have felt, over the decades since the Vietnam war that the government has slowly turned its back on our peoples complaints and needs all while playing lip service to us and, almost with a clandestine attitude producing actions for big business which has turned us from democratic principles to a Corporatocracy.

I think democracy only works if it is representative of the majority, is not influenced by lobbyists, is influenced by public opinion （not published opinion） and the elected party does not use it as a sanction for an abuse of power.
I also think that the single party system where everybody is pulling in largely the same direction to be a better system of government than the divisiveness of a multi party system that favours minority interests rather than the public good.
In time I suspect that the Chinese may well have a fully elected CCPPC as their consultative body sampling public opinion and promoting law and policy.
Public opinion is sampled when considering changes to law etc in China. And we should not forget that the internet is constantly monitored for evidence of social problems and responded to.

I could not agree more.
I have a stinking hunch, when issues get contentious in the USA, that that is derailed with sex scandals, abortion, flag burning, phoney tax cuts （that are tax shifts）， etc and it is done on purpose. The press, because it is hungry for tabloid crap because it sells advertising space （through increased viewership and circulation） and the majority of the people who thrive on the finger pointing and the blame game. Along with politicians who must, in order to get reelected, play along with that same game.
Who is behind this? Most everyone of us. How to stop it? As Jack Webb used to say, "Just the facts." Our press doesn't report the news, they editorialize it to death. After working for a major daily in the USA for a decade, it caused me to go from respect to disrespect.
Our sensationalized press constantly reminds us of the past as if it is a sense of the present. Our government publicly points fingers at our adversaries without looking at ourselves. Our people demand a perfect world, but there is no consensus. Ask a person in the USA what our plans are for the future and no one, not one person can tell us. Ask a Chinese citizen what China's plans are for the future and you'll probably get a decent answer. Most answers I get from the few USA citizens are based on flag waving nationalistic pride. They are not goals, they are dreams and wishes.
When we were the only game in town, our system worked great. But now we are not and our system is flawed.
How to fix it? I have no idea. One of the problems is the divisions have become so great that those who could be our leaders refuse to stand up, partly out of safety, and partly because like everyone in this world, their dirty laundry will not stand up to a constant bashing by their adversaries and press. The public and everyone else demands perfection, except in themselves.
I am sick of it.

You can't readily fix a corrupt establishment and return it to the control of democracy. Kennedy tried and look what happened to him. Given time the general public will cotton on and they will be fed a few crumbs to placate them. However, it will take revolution to restore true democracy but even then the politicians will get complacent again and revert the system for their own ends. Sadly that is the nature of politicians and in America where it takes millions of dollars of sponsorship to run an election campaign these politicians are very susceptible to corrupting influences.
So having decided that I can't change the system then I might as well stay in China where politics isn't an issue and they seem to be managing the show in spite of me.

It is easy to see who has won. all you need to know that in a poll 183 countries out of 187 favored China over the USA. Sun Tzu said that "winning people's hearts is better than winning under the sword". China is winning hearts, they mind their business, they do not instigate the overthrow of a government, they do shoot nor bomb anyone, they do things in a civilize manner where the situation is win win for all parties when they go to other countries.

You, my friend, are living in the past on most of what you say and know very little about their history. If you did, you wouldn't say what you have said. In order to start to understand China you need to learn about their history, culture, traditions, government and the way the average citizen thinks.
My proof is not in the words I say, but to challenge you to come here for a year or so to find out for yourself. That can be an all expenses paid trip to teach English as a second language where 300 million of their people are doing that. China is hungry for native speakers. If your interested and have the cahoona's to do that, google it.

9 years ago I first set foot in China, honestly scared, not wanting to be there, and couldn't wait to get out.By my second day, I had realized I'd been fed a lot of crap by my government and media. I then set out on a quest to find out about the real China. After living here for 5 years, I've come to the conclusion that what most in the west think they know of China would fit in a barrel, what they really know would fit in a thimble.
And China is a lot closer to what you think she should be and a lot further from what you think she is.We are often so critical of China while not paying attention to what we are. Hillary Clinton complains about China's human rights record, and while our domestic record is probably better, our international record is horrible.
China is nowhere near being perfect, but they have a very good handle on their problems. Their country is unified in ways that make me jealous, their people are happy and see a bright future, they don't have all the partisanship and political BS that is tearing us apart and they are united in a common couse to bring China into the future.It is not who will win, it is America will defeat itself through its own excesses. Democracy is wonderful, but it does have its limits and we have taken it that far and then some.
We should pay very close attention as to how China is doing this and learn from their own game. China is very goal oriented plus and once their legislature passes a law, everyone gets behind it to make it work. In the USA, we groan, complain and demand change even before the ink is dry.I could go on and on but I hope you get the message. China will not defeat us, we are doing that very well all by ourselves.What I fear, at the rate we are going, with no goals, only blind partisanship, that if we do not change our ways, the USA, in 25 to 50 years will cease to exist. Maybe even sooner.

In time I suspect that the Chinese may well have a fully elected CCPPC as their consultative body sampling public opinion and promoting law and policy.
Public opinion is sampled when considering changes to law etc in China. And we should not forget that the internet is constantly monitored for evidence of social problems and responded to.

I could not agree more.
I have a stinking hunch, when issues get contentious in the USA, that that is derailed with sex scandals, abortion, flag burning, phoney tax cuts （that are tax shifts）， etc and it is done on purpose. The press, because it is hungry for tabloid crap because it sells advertising space （through increased viewership and circulation） and the majority of the people who thrive on the finger pointing and the blame game. Along with politicians who must, in order to get reelected, play along with that same game.
Who is behind this? Most everyone of us. How to stop it? As Jack Webb used to say, "Just the facts." Our press doesn't report the news, they editorialize it to death. After working for a major daily in the USA for a decade, it caused me to go from respect to disrespect.
Our sensationalized press constantly reminds us of the past as if it is a sense of the present. Our government publicly points fingers at our adversaries without looking at ourselves. Our people demand a perfect world, but there is no consensus. Ask a person in the USA what our plans are for the future and no one, not one person can tell us. Ask a Chinese citizen what China's plans are for the future and you'll probably get a decent answer. Most answers I get from the few USA citizens are based on flag waving nationalistic pride. They are not goals, they are dreams and wishes.
When we were the only game in town, our system worked great. But now we are not and our system is flawed.
How to fix it? I have no idea. One of the problems is the divisions have become so great that those who could be our leaders refuse to stand up, partly out of safety, and partly because like everyone in this world, their dirty laundry will not stand up to a constant bashing by their adversaries and press. The public and everyone else demands perfection, except in themselves.
I am sick of it.

You can't readily fix a corrupt establishment and return it to the control of democracy. Kennedy tried and look what happened to him. Given time the general public will cotton on and they will be fed a few crumbs to placate them. However, it will take revolution to restore true democracy but even then the politicians will get complacent again and revert the system for their own ends. Sadly that is the nature of politicians and in America where it takes millions of dollars of sponsorship to run an election campaign these politicians are very susceptible to corrupting influences.
So having decided that I can't change the system then I might as well stay in China where politics isn't an issue and they seem to be managing the show in spite of me.

西方学校可不是像我们一样把政治作为一门中学课程来教授的。我们中学学的那点政治学显摆在西方人看来简直和大学政治系教授说的一样不可思议。
记得有个国人到美帝去留学些的文章，因为平时太宅，没啥兴趣爱好。后来在美国大学里新生一般都要作自我介绍。有人说，我足球很棒，有人说篮球我强，有人说唱歌跳舞样样精通……等轮到他时，他绞尽脑汁也向不到自己有啥爱好，想起来中学学过政治，急中生智说，我的爱好是政治，顺便把中学政治教科书翻译一段成英文，结果把那帮美国人震慑当场，霸气侧漏，各个佩服的五体投地。。
