Hard work coupled with communism created the wonder of modern China.Democracy is good only for less populated countries like in the west.India has become a big hypocrisy rather than a democracy over the years.
The chinese started out with copying the technologies of others and now they have reached the stage of being global leaders in innovation.

Super power is not related to increase in manpower might. In this advanced world, manpower alone will not make any country superpower.
Secondly if you look at China, it is very small country compared to USA.
Thirdly how China will never replace USA for its own interests. China is over dependent on many countries for want of natural resources

China replacing the US? It doesn't happen just because many people surveyed think so. The hard realities are that China started as the global hub for outsourced manufacturing and to a large extent continues even today to be that. It doesn't create technology, it only copies them. Their role in world affairs is minimal. Can the Chinese think of intervening in other countries like the US or even the Europe does? Their intimidatory rhetoric and actions are confined to Asia alone, where China is viewed as a bully. No doubt China has done remarkably well in human development index. It has grown economically, but at the cost of poisoned environment and related health issues.
It it still early to even think of China replacing the US in anything except may be the economy. China has grown but has retained the petty mindedness of a small nation.

You are right KS, China can never be a USA, because it does not have that type of money to invade other countries and maintain its army there( to be designated as a superpower). At the most China can overtake USA in the remaining industrial parameters(as it has already gone ahead of USA in steel, cement,aluminium,car(production & sales),infrastructure spending,exports,etc), but due to its huge population will never be able to surpass USA’s per capita income(PCI),though it may overtake USA in GDP output. At the most China could reach to become a medium high economic level country with a PCI about $ 20,000-$ 25,000/year.

This article is lousy and does not go deep, but the American leftist economist who visited the Soviet Union had the same thing to say - "I have seen the future - and it works". Did it really work? The Soviet economy had grown steadily between 1930s to 70s and then it suddenly halted and then reversed it path to its ultimate demise. What happened? Read James Robinson's splendid book "Why Nations Fail". It chronicles the Soviet experiment quite nicely and shows parallels with all great civilizations that rose to their peaks and then suddenly collapsed. From the artificial Soviet growth to the Maya Kingdoms to Roman empire - this book is an excellent read for people who are interested in what makes a nation prosperous and more importantly how very prosperous countries collapse into oblivion. The authors put forth the doctrine of "inclusive" institutions and "extractive" institutions, and point to history where extractive nations have enjoyed temporary periods of growth towards prosperity, and then suddenly vanished. As of the current trend the Chinese story is the same as the Soviets - everyone chirps the same tune "I have seen the future". Well - you should wait. Should China not move towards more empowerment of the people every good thing will stop. There is a point till which you can artificially grow the system. Both China and India have the same story to tell - we have grown despite of the govt not because of it. China is a dictatorship, often quite brutal - and a dictatorship which clings to power by force is corrupt by its very nature. I am not saying that India is any different - but what differentiates a functional democracy and a dictatorships are crisis moments - how can the system respond to crisis? The Soviets economy had come to a screeching halt and it responded by totally flattening. The Indian population were at the point of starvation in 60s - they responded with green revolution, next time the country was totally out of foreign reserve and bankrupt in late 80s - it bounced back with IT. It will be interesting to see how many such crises Indian kleptocracy can create and meet - but India has admirably responded to crisis situation. Democracies however flawed can respond and bounce back, but in history dictatorships cannot when they are met with an imminent collapse. Forget about collapsing situations - every nations face it and they respond by adapting. In normal situation if you use dynamite to blow out settlements of poor people how do the population react. Very angrily - but can the Chinese express their anger?
The China story has two sides - first their growth cannot be sustained, they have to slow down. That is natural and should not come in the way of development. But how long will people who get rich not express themselves? Wait and see - there will a time when China has to wake upto the realities that Soviets did , unless their institutions are not more inclusive.

中国的问题有两面 - 第一是他们的发展有不可持续性，他们必然减速。这在发展路上很正常。但是富起来的人们能忍受多久？我们等着瞧，中国很快会面临苏联的困境，除非他们的制度更具包容性。

China can claim to be a true superpower, an advanced country and superior to the US, only when it gives its citizen's the same rights, liberty and privileges that the US or the liberal Western countries give to its citizens.
With all its warts, the US is still the great beacon of democracy & freedom. Ask any man anywhere in the world whether he wants to become a citizen of the US or China!

The word "Superpower" belongs to cold war era. and it belongs to only to the two arch rival countries that survived the COLD WAR.
Superpower is the power to deliver death and destruction to the enemy in an unimaginable way at its fullest, the world could ever imagine and witness.
It has nothing to do with economy.
These two countries are still SUPERPOWERS. They both still have the potential Defense wise.

If, just in case if, U.S. decides to stop all imports from China, China's economy will go in tailspin. Whether U.S. will do this drastic step is nother question. China's economy is U.S. centric and cannot survive with out U.S. supporting its manufacturing base. It is as simple as that.

Usha madam, today China holds $ 1.32 trillion US T-Bonds,(it holds over 20% of bonds, the maximum by far of all countries) try to visualize what will be the fate of the US $ if China sells releases even half of its stock of T-Bonds in the market. The $ will crash, therefore US will never stop buying Chinese goods,it will use strong language against China,pull it up on human rights, but will never take harsh action,because of this above danger.

To be superpower one also needs to be innovative and be ahead in race. But China is not in that league. They are best only in duplicating and imitating. However fast they do this ,their nose will still be behind the first who is innovating.

It is true China can never invade other countries,or even wage wars against Irag,Afghanistan etc, for which we consider USA as a super power and are in awe of it. However China has surpassed USA on most parameters, like it is the largest producer of steel,cement,aluminium,largest manufacturing hub,biggest automobile market( both production & sales), highest exports,etc. Today 4 Chinese banks figure in the first 10 largest banks in the world,and the first 2 positions are occupied by China. However,even if they surpass USA in many more parameters,because of its immense population it can never be a rich country like Germany,Japan or USA, and thus cannot wage wars anywhere.

China replacing the US? It doesn't happen just because many people surveyed think so. The hard realities are that China started as the global hub for outsourced manufacturing and to a large extent continues even today to be that. It doesn't create technology, it only copies them. Their role in world affairs is minimal. Can the Chinese think of intervening in other countries like the US or even the Europe does? Their intimidatory rhetoric and actions are confined to Asia alone, where China is viewed as a bully. No doubt China has done remarkably well in human development index. It has grown economically, but at the cost of poisoned environment and related health issues.
It it still early to even think of China replacing the US in anything except may be the economy. China has grown but has retained the petty mindedness of a small nation.

You are right KS, China can never be a USA, because it does not have that type of money to invade other countries and maintain its army there( to be designated as a superpower). At the most China can overtake USA in the remaining industrial parameters(as it has already gone ahead of USA in steel, cement,aluminium,car(production & sales),infrastructure spending,exports,etc), but due to its huge population will never be able to surpass USA’s per capita income(PCI),though it may overtake USA in GDP output. At the most China could reach to become a medium high economic level country with a PCI about $ 20,000-$ 25,000/year.

This article is lousy and does not go deep, but the American leftist economist who visited the Soviet Union had the same thing to say - "I have seen the future - and it works". Did it really work? The Soviet economy had grown steadily between 1930s to 70s and then it suddenly halted and then reversed it path to its ultimate demise. What happened? Read James Robinson's splendid book "Why Nations Fail". It chronicles the Soviet experiment quite nicely and shows parallels with all great civilizations that rose to their peaks and then suddenly collapsed. From the artificial Soviet growth to the Maya Kingdoms to Roman empire - this book is an excellent read for people who are interested in what makes a nation prosperous and more importantly how very prosperous countries collapse into oblivion. The authors put forth the doctrine of "inclusive" institutions and "extractive" institutions, and point to history where extractive nations have enjoyed temporary periods of growth towards prosperity, and then suddenly vanished. As of the current trend the Chinese story is the same as the Soviets - everyone chirps the same tune "I have seen the future". Well - you should wait. Should China not move towards more empowerment of the people every good thing will stop. There is a point till which you can artificially grow the system. Both China and India have the same story to tell - we have grown despite of the govt not because of it. China is a dictatorship, often quite brutal - and a dictatorship which clings to power by force is corrupt by its very nature. I am not saying that India is any different - but what differentiates a functional democracy and a dictatorships are crisis moments - how can the system respond to crisis? The Soviets economy had come to a screeching halt and it responded by totally flattening. The Indian population were at the point of starvation in 60s - they responded with green revolution, next time the country was totally out of foreign reserve and bankrupt in late 80s - it bounced back with IT. It will be interesting to see how many such crises Indian kleptocracy can create and meet - but India has admirably responded to crisis situation. Democracies however flawed can respond and bounce back, but in history dictatorships cannot when they are met with an imminent collapse. Forget about collapsing situations - every nations face it and they respond by adapting. In normal situation if you use dynamite to blow out settlements of poor people how do the population react. Very angrily - but can the Chinese express their anger?
The China story has two sides - first their growth cannot be sustained, they have to slow down. That is natural and should not come in the way of development. But how long will people who get rich not express themselves? Wait and see - there will a time when China has to wake upto the realities that Soviets did , unless their institutions are not more inclusive.

It is true China can never invade other countries,or even wage wars against Irag,Afghanistan etc, for which we consider USA as a super power and are in awe of it. However China has surpassed USA on most parameters, like it is the largest producer of steel,cement,aluminium,largest manufacturing hub,biggest automobile market( both production & sales), highest exports,etc. Today 4 Chinese banks figure in the first 10 largest banks in the world,and the first 2 positions are occupied by China. However,even if they surpass USA in many more parameters,because of its immense population it can never be a rich country like Germany,Japan or USA, and thus cannot wage wars anywhere.

China replacing the US? It doesn't happen just because many people surveyed think so. The hard realities are that China started as the global hub for outsourced manufacturing and to a large extent continues even today to be that. It doesn't create technology, it only copies them. Their role in world affairs is minimal. Can the Chinese think of intervening in other countries like the US or even the Europe does? Their intimidatory rhetoric and actions are confined to Asia alone, where China is viewed as a bully. No doubt China has done remarkably well in human development index. It has grown economically, but at the cost of poisoned environment and related health issues.
It it still early to even think of China replacing the US in anything except may be the economy. China has grown but has retained the petty mindedness of a small nation.

You are right KS, China can never be a USA, because it does not have that type of money to invade other countries and maintain its army there( to be designated as a superpower). At the most China can overtake USA in the remaining industrial parameters(as it has already gone ahead of USA in steel, cement,aluminium,car(production & sales),infrastructure spending,exports,etc), but due to its huge population will never be able to surpass USA’s per capita income(PCI),though it may overtake USA in GDP output. At the most China could reach to become a medium high economic level country with a PCI about $ 20,000-$ 25,000/year.

This article is lousy and does not go deep, but the American leftist economist who visited the Soviet Union had the same thing to say - "I have seen the future - and it works". Did it really work? The Soviet economy had grown steadily between 1930s to 70s and then it suddenly halted and then reversed it path to its ultimate demise. What happened? Read James Robinson's splendid book "Why Nations Fail". It chronicles the Soviet experiment quite nicely and shows parallels with all great civilizations that rose to their peaks and then suddenly collapsed. From the artificial Soviet growth to the Maya Kingdoms to Roman empire - this book is an excellent read for people who are interested in what makes a nation prosperous and more importantly how very prosperous countries collapse into oblivion. The authors put forth the doctrine of "inclusive" institutions and "extractive" institutions, and point to history where extractive nations have enjoyed temporary periods of growth towards prosperity, and then suddenly vanished. As of the current trend the Chinese story is the same as the Soviets - everyone chirps the same tune "I have seen the future". Well - you should wait. Should China not move towards more empowerment of the people every good thing will stop. There is a point till which you can artificially grow the system. Both China and India have the same story to tell - we have grown despite of the govt not because of it. China is a dictatorship, often quite brutal - and a dictatorship which clings to power by force is corrupt by its very nature. I am not saying that India is any different - but what differentiates a functional democracy and a dictatorships are crisis moments - how can the system respond to crisis? The Soviets economy had come to a screeching halt and it responded by totally flattening. The Indian population were at the point of starvation in 60s - they responded with green revolution, next time the country was totally out of foreign reserve and bankrupt in late 80s - it bounced back with IT. It will be interesting to see how many such crises Indian kleptocracy can create and meet - but India has admirably responded to crisis situation. Democracies however flawed can respond and bounce back, but in history dictatorships cannot when they are met with an imminent collapse. Forget about collapsing situations - every nations face it and they respond by adapting. In normal situation if you use dynamite to blow out settlements of poor people how do the population react. Very angrily - but can the Chinese express their anger?
The China story has two sides - first their growth cannot be sustained, they have to slow down. That is natural and should not come in the way of development. But how long will people who get rich not express themselves? Wait and see - there will a time when China has to wake upto the realities that Soviets did , unless their institutions are not more inclusive.

无用的作者，为啥这次被反复使用？
超级大国这个词语属于冷战时期。用来称呼那两个敌对的大国。
超级大国带来的只有毁灭和死亡，和经济毫无关系。
现在这两个国家还是超级大国，军事上讲他们还有这种可能性。

If, just in case if, U.S. decides to stop all imports from China, China's economy will go in tailspin. Whether U.S. will do this drastic step is nother question. China's economy is U.S. centric and cannot survive with out U.S. supporting its manufacturing base. It is as simple as that.

Usha madam, today China holds $ 1.32 trillion US T-Bonds,(it holds over 20% of bonds, the maximum by far of all countries) try to visualize what will be the fate of the US $ if China sells releases even half of its stock of T-Bonds in the market. The $ will crash, therefore US will never stop buying Chinese goods,it will use strong language against China,pull it up on human rights, but will never take harsh action,because of this above danger.

It is true China can never invade other countries,or even wage wars against Irag,Afghanistan etc, for which we consider USA as a super power and are in awe of it. However China has surpassed USA on most parameters, like it is the largest producer of steel,cement,aluminium,largest manufacturing hub,biggest automobile market( both production & sales), highest exports,etc. Today 4 Chinese banks figure in the first 10 largest banks in the world,and the first 2 positions are occupied by China. However,even if they surpass USA in many more parameters,because of its immense population it can never be a rich country like Germany,Japan or USA, and thus cannot wage wars anywhere.

China replacing the US? It doesn't happen just because many people surveyed think so. The hard realities are that China started as the global hub for outsourced manufacturing and to a large extent continues even today to be that. It doesn't create technology, it only copies them. Their role in world affairs is minimal. Can the Chinese think of intervening in other countries like the US or even the Europe does? Their intimidatory rhetoric and actions are confined to Asia alone, where China is viewed as a bully. No doubt China has done remarkably well in human development index. It has grown economically, but at the cost of poisoned environment and related health issues.
It it still early to even think of China replacing the US in anything except may be the economy. China has grown but has retained the petty mindedness of a small nation.

You are right KS, China can never be a USA, because it does not have that type of money to invade other countries and maintain its army there( to be designated as a superpower). At the most China can overtake USA in the remaining industrial parameters(as it has already gone ahead of USA in steel, cement,aluminium,car(production & sales),infrastructure spending,exports,etc), but due to its huge population will never be able to surpass USA’s per capita income(PCI),though it may overtake USA in GDP output. At the most China could reach to become a medium high economic level country with a PCI about $ 20,000-$ 25,000/year.

This article is lousy and does not go deep, but the American leftist economist who visited the Soviet Union had the same thing to say - "I have seen the future - and it works". Did it really work? The Soviet economy had grown steadily between 1930s to 70s and then it suddenly halted and then reversed it path to its ultimate demise. What happened? Read James Robinson's splendid book "Why Nations Fail". It chronicles the Soviet experiment quite nicely and shows parallels with all great civilizations that rose to their peaks and then suddenly collapsed. From the artificial Soviet growth to the Maya Kingdoms to Roman empire - this book is an excellent read for people who are interested in what makes a nation prosperous and more importantly how very prosperous countries collapse into oblivion. The authors put forth the doctrine of "inclusive" institutions and "extractive" institutions, and point to history where extractive nations have enjoyed temporary periods of growth towards prosperity, and then suddenly vanished. As of the current trend the Chinese story is the same as the Soviets - everyone chirps the same tune "I have seen the future". Well - you should wait. Should China not move towards more empowerment of the people every good thing will stop. There is a point till which you can artificially grow the system. Both China and India have the same story to tell - we have grown despite of the govt not because of it. China is a dictatorship, often quite brutal - and a dictatorship which clings to power by force is corrupt by its very nature. I am not saying that India is any different - but what differentiates a functional democracy and a dictatorships are crisis moments - how can the system respond to crisis? The Soviets economy had come to a screeching halt and it responded by totally flattening. The Indian population were at the point of starvation in 60s - they responded with green revolution, next time the country was totally out of foreign reserve and bankrupt in late 80s - it bounced back with IT. It will be interesting to see how many such crises Indian kleptocracy can create and meet - but India has admirably responded to crisis situation. Democracies however flawed can respond and bounce back, but in history dictatorships cannot when they are met with an imminent collapse. Forget about collapsing situations - every nations face it and they respond by adapting. In normal situation if you use dynamite to blow out settlements of poor people how do the population react. Very angrily - but can the Chinese express their anger?
The China story has two sides - first their growth cannot be sustained, they have to slow down. That is natural and should not come in the way of development. But how long will people who get rich not express themselves? Wait and see - there will a time when China has to wake upto the realities that Soviets did , unless their institutions are not more inclusive.

中国的问题有两面 - 第一是他们的发展有不可持续性，他们必然减速。这在发展路上很正常。但是富起来的人们能忍受多久？我们等着瞧，中国很快会面临苏联的困境，除非他们的制度更具包容性。

Useless author... Why is this word used frequently?
The word "Superpower" belongs to cold war era. and it belongs to only to the two arch rival countries that survived the COLD WAR.
Superpower is the power to deliver death and destruction to the enemy in an unimaginable way at its fullest, the world could ever imagine and witness.
It has nothing to do with economy.
These two countries are still SUPERPOWERS. They both still have the potential Defense wise.

If, just in case if, U.S. decides to stop all imports from China, China's economy will go in tailspin. Whether U.S. will do this drastic step is nother question. China's economy is U.S. centric and cannot survive with out U.S. supporting its manufacturing base. It is as simple as that.

Usha madam, today China holds $ 1.32 trillion US T-Bonds,(it holds over 20% of bonds, the maximum by far of all countries) try to visualize what will be the fate of the US $ if China sells releases even half of its stock of T-Bonds in the market. The $ will crash, therefore US will never stop buying Chinese goods,it will use strong language against China,pull it up on human rights, but will never take harsh action,because of this above danger.

It is true China can never invade other countries,or even wage wars against Irag,Afghanistan etc, for which we consider USA as a super power and are in awe of it. However China has surpassed USA on most parameters, like it is the largest producer of steel,cement,aluminium,largest manufacturing hub,biggest automobile market( both production & sales), highest exports,etc. Today 4 Chinese banks figure in the first 10 largest banks in the world,and the first 2 positions are occupied by China. However,even if they surpass USA in many more parameters,because of its immense population it can never be a rich country like Germany,Japan or USA, and thus cannot wage wars anywhere.

Congress ruled Indiafor 55 years plus out if 65 years. This gives the answer.
The saddest part isthe majority of the Msulim population lives in utter poverty and hardship.However, the well off and educated people among muslims are not taking anyinitiative to uplift the poor among the muslims .
Unless we all cometogether and teach Congress (which has ruined India) a lesson we have no hopeas a nation.

Kachole, have you beento China.My son works there in a MNC,and myself & my wife yearly visit it.I have seen most of the country, Shanghai(son's place ofposting),Beijing,Guangzhou,Shenzhen,Chengdu and a few more Chinese cities haveworld class infrastructure, which none of the Indian cities have.Shanghai,Beijing,& Hong Kong are comparable to New York,London & Tokyo.If, Chinese only copy products, and make goods of spurious quality, then WalMart, Carrefor,Tesco,Metro,& Seiyu the 5 biggest super market chains of theworld would not have procured 70% of their goods displayed on their shelves inany of their stores from China. The fault lies at the door of our dishonestbusinessmen,who bring goods of poor quality from China, at the cheapest rate,for selling here,because majority of Indians only see the price, & not thequality. In China every manufacturer keeps 3 quality types of goods in his shop/godown,one for the USA/Europe/Canada/Australia/Japan markets,the second forRussia/Korea/Argentina/Mexico/Brazil etc, and the third of inferior quality forIndia/Bangladesh/Pakistan & African countries. My suggestion to you is tovisit China and see for yourself instead of being brainwashed.

你去过中国么？我儿子在一家跨国公司工作，我和我太太每年都去他那里，并且参观了中国的大部分。上海（我儿子的工作地），北京，广州，深圳，成都和另外好多中国城市都有世界顶级的基础设施，印度没有一个城市拥有。上海，北京和香港可以和纽约，伦敦还有东京比较。如果中国只会山寨，生产伪劣商品，那么沃尔玛，家乐福，特斯科，麦特龙和世玉这5个世界最大的连锁超市里的货架上就不会有70%的商品来自中国。该责怪我们的黑心商人，专门买中国的廉价伪劣商品来印度销售。多数的印度人只看价格不论质量。在中国每个厂家都有三种质量标准，最好的供应欧美，加拿大，澳大利亚，日本，次好的给俄罗斯，韩国，阿根廷，墨西哥和巴西。最差的卖给印度，孟加拉国，巴基斯坦和非洲国家。我建议你来中国看看，别被洗脑。

现有的世界体系本质是西方世界的殖民体系，这是一个必然不符合世界历史潮流的体系，他唯一存在下去的可能就是玩屠杀，像屠尽印第安人一样让自己成为唯一存在。如果这个做不到的话，那么中国的朝贡体系必然恢复。
总是有很多人鄙视朝贡体系，却从来没有想过古人不比你笨多少，汉唐都玩这一套必然有他的道理。朝贡体系是中国人、是儒家用了上千年的时间摸索出来的大和小、强和弱的相处生存之道，是仁义礼的外在表现。而西方的大和小、强和弱的生存之道却是大吃小、强吃弱。所以搞殖民、搞屠杀，打一战和二战眼皮都不眨一下。而现在的表现就是处处干涉，不听我的、不接受我的价值观就打。一神论的思维模式已经融入骨子里了。

阎学通那套还是算了吧，虽然现在美国以及西方主导的国际体系的矛盾弊端越来越多了，但还犯不着复古吧。中国如果真想引领世界的话，还真需要“普世价值”。就现在这个特色那是肯定不行的
