(CNN) -- A pilotwho ejected after a U.S. fighter jet crashed into the waters off northern Japanon Sunday was rescued and was in stable condition, military officials said.

Hard to tell.  In that airplane, andmost others I think, when the pilot ejects, a signal is broadcast over theemergency frequencies.  But, being 200 miles offshore, was it heard? I hope he got out, but even if he did, he would have had to survive theejection, gotten into his raft, and is able to hang on until found.  Theseas in that area are very rough most of the year.  Here's hoping though.
