Earlier aircraft Il-76MD/TD series were based on the Tashkent aircraft plant in Uzbekistan. The decision to postpone production of IL-76 in Russia was adopted after the collapse of the contract for the supply to China some 40 Il-76MD and Il-78.

Airplane "izd.476" which is sometimes referred to in the press as the Il-476, should have virtually a new wing in the production of which will be applied to new technologies, new avionics and new engines PS-90A-76 with a thrust of 14.5 m. As previously reported, the Russian Defense Ministry plans to buy dozens of aircraft "izd.476" as a variant of tanker and a version of the PTS in the state armaments program for the period from 2011 to 2020.
