DETROIT (DOW Jones)--China accounted for a quarter of the global automotive industry sales in November, the highest-ever proportion, as manufacturers intensified their marketing in that country while shifting away from slower growing markets.

General Motors Co.'s top sales analyst Mike DiGiovanni said Tuesday that industry auto sales in China rose 93% in November compared with the same period last year. This compares with 6.7% in western Europe, 5% in Latin America and 2.7% in the United States.

Auto makers are scrambling to secure a solid sales source as they contend with a slow economic recovery in the U.S. and a potential nightmare in Europe with the ending of scrappage incentives that artificially spurred consumer buying in countries such as Germany and Italy.

Here in the U.S., single-digit increases were reported by Ford Motor Co. (F) and Toyota Motor Co. (TM, 7203.TO), while GM and Chrysler Group LLC reported declines.

The U.S. sales reports released Tuesday suggested sales have stabilized after the end of government incentives in August, though they were bolstered by easy year-ago comparisons.

George Pipas, Ford's U.S. sales manager, estimated a seasonally adjusted annualized rate of 10.4 million to 10.5 million during a conference call. That was in line with October's performance and ahead of the 10.17 million sold in the same period last year.

However, auto makers failed to revive consumer buying despite a flurry of new incentives by both GM and Chrysler to clear out 2009 inventory.

Car-shopping Web site Edmunds.com said the average automotive manufacturer incentive in the U.S. was $2,713, up 1.9% from the prior month, noting GM, Chrysler and Ford spent the most on incentives.

"Not surprisingly, GM is forced to spend handsomely on incentives--using taxpayer money--to wind down the Saturn and Pontiac brands and keep Hummer and Saab afloat," said Edmunds' AutoObserver.com senior editor Michelle Krebs.

Ford led the reports with a 0.1% increase in November light-vehicle sales, lifted by car and crossover business, although volume was down 10% from the prior month. Last month had two prior selling days than last November.

Second-ranked Toyota reported a 2.6% rise in sales, while Chrysler, now relegated to fifth spot in the market, had a 25% decline.

GM said it expected the seasonally adjusted annualized rate of sales to be "slightly higher" than October, placing the figure at 11 million. GM, the largest U.S. auto maker, reported sales fell 1.8% to 150,676, with car sales down 1.3% and light-truck sales falling 2.1%.

DiGiovann said the company was encouraged by signs the U.S. economy was strengthening, and noted improvements should help boost light-duty pickup truck sales.

Ford executives, meanwhile, said industry pricing was holding up, helped in part by capacity cuts and favorable currency movements for overseas-based manufacturers.

It is boosting production to 555,000 vehicles in the first quarter of 2010, up 58% from a year earlier to replenish inventories.

Toyota sales rose to 133,700 vehicles, with cars up 6.1% and trucks down 2.5%. Toyota-brand sales were up 0.1%, while the premium Lexus brand posted a 14% increase.

Camry, Prius and Corolla sales were all up from a year ago, while Yaris posted a 22% decline.

Honda Motor Co. (HMC, 7267.TO) reported sales decreased 2.9% to 74,003 units on a 12% decrease in car sales, which offset a 10% increase in truck sales.

Hyundai Motor Co. (HYMLY, 005380.SE) sold 28,045 units, up 46% from a year ago. Hyundai said November was the 11th consecutive month of year-over-year gains in retail market share.

"Looking ahead to December, we're confident we'll finish the year with market share at least a full percentage point above our record 3% share in 2008," said Dave Zuchowski, vice president of sales.

Industry watchers had expected U.S. new-vehicle sales to rise in November, adjusted for two fewer selling days this year, with J.D. Power & Associates noting strong fleet sales and economic stabilization.

Chrysler continued its steady streak of dismal results by reporting a 25% decline in sales for November. This despite offering 0% financing and cash back on many of its models.

This was the first time Chrysler reported sales since Chief Executive Officer Sergio Marchionne detailed his five-year business survival plan in November. He plans to refresh the current product portfolio until he can introduce new Fiat designed cars in the future.

Ford's shares were up 1.4% at $9 in recent trading. Toyota's American depository shares were up 3.7% to $81.44 while Honda's rose 4.7% to $32.46.2009年11月,TG汽车销量占全球25%。

Some auto industry sources predict that, based on sales growth in 2009, car sales volume in China could reach 17m in 2012。。。。

The loans will be provided through GMAC and be more widely available to consumers as GMAC has lowered its credit criteria.
