缅甸军务安全会主席Mya Tun Oo中将代表缅甸政府在果敢事变两周后举行第一次有关果敢战争的记者招待会。记者招待会上Mya Tun Oo中将指责中国解放军退役的军人组成了雇佣军赴缅甸训练果敢独立军。Mya Tun Oo中将同时指责佤邦联军（United Wa Army）、德昂族解放军（Ta'ang National Liberation Army TNLA）、克钦独立军（KIA）以及彭家声的果敢独立军Mongla (National Democracy Alliance Army) 在联手进行这次的反政府军事行动。

Mya Tun Oo中将向记者们披露说，至今为止在果敢老街两周的战斗中总共有61名政府军士兵和72名果敢独立军士兵阵亡。

NAYPYITAW, Myanmar –  Myanmar's government says allied minority rebel groups and former Chinese soldiers recruited as mercenaries are supporting ethnic Kokang rebels in fighting against government troops.

Myanmar's chief of military affairs security, Lt. Gen. Mya Tun Oo, made the claim Saturday as a broader spectrum of ethnic rebel groups issued a statement of moral support for the Kokang.

The United Nationalities Federal Council said the Kokang, who occupy a special region in Myanmar near the Chinese border, share the groups' demand for greater autonomy from the central government. The UNFC urged the government to make peace with the Kokang through current multilateral negotiations they hope will lead to a political settlement with all the groups.

Mya Tun Oo said the Kokang were retreating after two weeks of combat.

The United Wa Army, Ta'ang National Liberation Army (TNLA), Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and Mongla group (also known as the National Democracy Alliance Army) have been aiding the Kokang rebels, Lieutenant-General Mya Tun Oo from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief told a press conference in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.

The Kokang rebels were using Type 81-8 rifles which are known to be produced by the Wa army. According to the confessions of captured Chinese citizens, the Wa army has been manufacturing weapons in Pangkham (formerly known as Pangsang) in eastern Shan State, and Chinese military officers and citizens have been serving as military advisers and instructors along the border.

The allied group formed with Kokang rebels and other armed groups aimed to take over the entire Kokang area and Myitkyina to the Chinese border, according to Mya Tun Oo.

All eight captured Chinese citizens had confessed that Chinese mercenaries had been involved in the Laukkaing clashes, he said.

"Those who were fighting with the rebels told us that they heard commands being given in Kachin and Wa languages. They've even heard women's voices. Also the KIA, Mongla and Wa are involved in this," he said.

"The clashes continued today. We will fight them until the Kokang rebels are unable to take a foothold in this area. Then we will immediately try to bring peace to the area.”

A commercial arms smuggling market was widespread in the border areas and it was difficult to know the amount of munitions that had been smuggled into the country, he said.

"The KIA has denied involvement in this conflict. But soldiers who were fighting in the clashes told us that they heard Chinese, Wa, Kachin, and Shan voices," said Mya Tun Oo.

Seven officers and 47 other ranks had been killed in the Laukkaing conflict since February 12 while 12 officers and 93 other ranks had been injured, the general said. Seven people, including one police officer, had also been killed during the conflict.

The public has been supporting the military and donated Ks2.4 billion (US$2.4 million) to be divided evenly among the families of the deceased and injured.

The military said it would continue to update the media on the conflict.

While the KIA denied involvement in Laukkaing, the TNLA announced that it had been aiding the rebels. The Wa army is yet to comment.
