Pakistan to produce new SAM

Kanwa News June 1 2005: China has transferred the QW2 production technology to Pakistan. A source claimed that Pakistan Ordnance Factories has started the production of ANZAMK III air-defense missile from 2005, and all testing and technological transfer are so far completed. This technology transfer includes the thermal imaging and IR night vision systems for QW2. The thermal imaging system, whose testing was completed in 2002, has an identification range of 8,000m for aircraft targets and 5,000m for combat helicopters.
Pakistan will start batch production of the above systems within 3 months. Pakistani version QW2’s maximum target speed is 400m/s (head-on) and tail-on speed 320m/s. It has a targeting altitude of 10-4,000m, effective range 500-6,000m, missile flying speed 600m/s, average overload 16G, maneuverable overload 18G. The missile has a weight of 11kg, length 1,590mm, weight of the weapon system 18.4kg, and life expectancy 10 years.


Pakistani Army plans to use QW2 to replace ANZA MKII and HY5A shoulder ground-to-air missiles. However, a source from Pakistani Army says that the ANZA MK II production line will be retained due to the difference in the prices of the missiles. Meanwhile, Pakistan has started to promote ANZA MK II to countries like Saudi Arabia. The QW2 weapon system publicized by CPMIEC has a weight of 18kg, target altitude 10-3,500m, life expectancy 8 years, length of the missile 1,590mm, weight 11.32kg.
