音乐剧《悲惨世界》简直就是神作啊，小说经过了简化，但是故事主线保留了，里面的好多唱段都是经典之作。
里面对人性的诠释，对资产阶级革命人士的赞美，对黑暗现实的表现，都很到位。
最近在看10周年的纪念版演出，里面的歌词翻译非常棒，谁知道这个歌词谁翻译的？

《悲惨世界》改自法国作家雨果的著名小说，在英国公演于一九八五年。之后，在世界各大洲都有不断的演出，在近几年，它的影响也波及到亚洲，《悲惨世界》有日文版（其他语种还有法语、西伯来语、匈牙利语、西班牙语、德语等），而在新加坡、香港、印度以及中国都已经或是将要有它的演出。也因为如此，它被称为世界上最有名的音乐剧，－－当然也许更多人听说过的《悲惨世界》是雨果的小说。不过也因为原书的名气太大，音乐剧在一开始很受评论家的排挤。有些人认为它不该把严肃的东西音乐化懈渎了名著，另一些人则认为音乐加上严肃主题是糟蹋了音乐剧。谁想观众的反应却十分积极，票房的收入相当好，就这样剧团支持过了最艰难的初始阶段。之后不久《悲惨世界》就转到伦敦西头（英国舞台剧中心）后来又越洋过海到美国的百老汇，自此一发而不可收。舞台剧在全世界一百多个城市公演，直到现在，十五年后的今天，仍在匈牙利，德国和日本连续公演。九五年八月五日，在伦敦圣阿伯特剧场（St. Albert Hall）举行的十周年的晚会上，《悲惨世界》最优秀的演员聚集一堂，最后由十七位来自不同国家Valjean出场，用各自的语言演唱"Do You Hear the People Sing"。这也说明该剧在各个国家的知名程度。
