NaturalNews) A number of countries are beginning to require Japan toplace region-of-origin labeling on its food products to ensure that anythingcoming from the radiation-infested regions surrounding the damaged Fukushimanuclear power plant are adequately screened for contamination. The decisions bycountries such as Taiwan and South Korea have angered Japanese officials, whoare turning to the globalist World Trade Organization to force the countries toabolish their protective regulations.

[copy]In recent days, Japan threatened Taiwan with filing a complaint with theWTO while actually filing one against South Korea, the latter of which hadplaced new restrictions on Japanese food imports following the disaster.

The Fukushima plant was heavily damaged by a major tsunami that was caused by amassive earthquake off the northern coast of the island in March 2011.

[/copy]

Officials in Tokyo are complaining that the South Korean regulations violaterules of international trade.

As reported by Russia Today:

Under WTO rules, South Korea has 60 days to resolve the matter in bilateraltalks. After that, Japan can ask the organization to assemble a panel of tradeexperts to assess the situation.

The measures imposed by South Korea after the Fukushima accident of 2011 ban anumber of products and require additional certification of Japanese food due toconcerns that it could be contaminated with radiation.

Trying to "secure the safety of the people" against WTO rules?

Officials with the Ministry of Trade in South Korea said that the restrictionsare reasonable, given that the damaged plant is still leaking radiation-taintedwater.

Japanmade its announcement ahead of a planned meeting with South Korean FinanceMinister Choi Kyung-hwan in Tokyo. He held formal talks with his Japanesecounterpart May 23, the first such meeting between both men in two years.

[copy]"Thegovernment will explain in future consultations with Japan that importrestrictions have been placed to secure the safety of people," SouthKorea's trade, agriculture, foreign affairs, and other related ministries saidin a joint statement on May 21, RT.com reported.

Japaneseofficials said they saw no reason for any trade restrictions on food importsbecause of the Fukushima accident. Tokyo maintains that radiation levels inJapanese food have declined appreciably since the accident and that ongoingtesting of food produced in the region surrounding Fukushima has found thatless than 1 percent was contaminated with radiation above Japan's food safetylimits by 2014.

[/copy]

Averageannual imports by South Korea of Japanese fish and seafood amounted to $96million from 2012-2014; this is less than half the average of $213 millionrecorded in the 2006-2010 timeframe.

Taiwan is also cracking down

In September 2013, the South Korean government extended its ban on theimportation of Japanese fishery products, covering imports from eight Japaneseprefectures including Fukushima.

In recent days, Taiwan began enforcing stricter rules regarding inspections ofimportant Japanese food products for potential radiation contamination, prompting Japan to threaten WTO action against Taipei.

Reuters reported that the new rules would only permit foods with place oforigin certificates issued by the Japanese government into Taiwan. In addition, some items from designated places in Japan now require radiation testing beforethey are permitted to enter Taiwanese markets.

Reuters noted:

Taiwan's Food and Drug Administration said the latest enforcement was in linewith radiation safety management practices that other countries have put inplace on Japanese food imports following the 2011 Fukushima nuclear disaster.

Taiwan said this "is necessary to protect the safety of foodconsumption" for its people.

Japan is, in essence, turning to a globalist trade organization to forceTaiwan, South Korea and other nations to consume radiation-tainted foods. Inresponse, perhaps other nations should simply stop importing all Japanesefishery products.

I stopped eating fish and seafood from the U.S. when they stopped putting theorigin of the product on the label and everything started showing up with thelabel "Origin: USA" after the Deep water Horizon disaster in the Gulfof Mexico. I didn't want to eat anything from the Gulf. Then there were all thestories about farm raised fish and seafood, being contaminated by ag chemicalsby field run-off and the horrible conditions of foreign farmed fish. and I waspretty well weaned off of fish and seafood before the Fukishima disaster.
I would love to see a list of foods that are imported to USA from Japan andother countries in Asia, so I know what else to avoid. What about rice, grownin areas where the airborne radiation from Fukishima is prevalent, for instance? What about Miso, Tempeh, soy sauce, etc. What U.S. made, organic substitutesare available, here. I don't even use organic herbs and teas from China orJapan, anymore, because of their various pollution problems.
