The General Manager, Richbon Nigeria Limited, distributors of Sinotruk brand of trucks in Nigeria, Mr. Edmund Okwu has attributed the success of the products in the country to its high quality and price advantage.
Speaking to Vanguard Motoring in an interview recently, Mr. Okwu disclosed that over 10,000 unis of Sinotruk vehicles are operating in Nigeria presently without complaints.
“All the Sinotruk trucks we sold four years ago when we ventured into the franchise are still running without complaints”, he said, adding that Sinotruk is a product of the Chinese National Heavy Duty Truck Company (CNHTC), the number one heavy duty truck manufacturer in China, and is well known all over the world.
According to him, the product is gradually dominating the Nigerian truck market, having won the Nigeria Auto Awards as the fastest growing product in its category.

Highlighting Sinotruk’s unique selling points as price advantage, ruggedness, durability, fuel efficiency, comfort and economy, Okwu said “buying new trucks can reduce the incidents of road accidents to the bearest minimum.
According to him the company has put together many incentives aimed at encouraging their customers to acquire their trucks, including flexible payment plans.
Users have come to realise that instead of buying used trucks which have no warranty and assurance for value, they could use almost the same amount or add a little to purchase a brand new Sinotruk vehicle that could last many years and guarantee return on their investments.

People who buy old trucks can add little amount and acquire brand new Sinotruk trucks that can last a very long time. This would not only reduce accidents but also keep the environment free of pollution. He said Richbon was in the business of selling used trucks before veering into importation, sales, and maintenance of the Sinotruk brand, having realised the advantages of new trucks, especially Sinotruk which is not only easy to run but very fuel efficient and environmentally friendly.
“We observed that there is this mentality about used trucks. The mentality motivated us to go into new trucks. Our research revealed that people who drive used trucks tend to abuse them but those who drive new trucks have this joy to drive because they feel at home in them. They don’t need to spend more money on maintenance given the fact that the trucks are covered by warranty.
Even bank hardly finance used trucks, their reason being that owners hardly repay the loans. When you use new trucks, you don’t need to fear that the truck could disappoint and this gives a level of confidence to even the company you are delivering their products that it will get to the destination.
“So in this case you have advantage of fuel efficiency, technical backup, warranty, reliability, safety, easy maintenance, confidence of customers and owners of the goods and even the driver of the truck” he said.

Disclosing that the trucks were built to the highest industry standard, the General Manager said,
“Sinotruk is built for Nigerian roads, and can be maintained by any mechanic because the technology is simple and one hundred per cent manual. It is powered by Steyr’s six cylinder straight engine with rugged suspension to withstand the toughest terrain. Okwu however, added that with an ultra modern workshop in Lagos and mobile workshops, the company responds quickly to customers demand within 24 hours adding that part of their expansion plan is to build workshops in all the six geo-political locations across the country very soon to carter or their customers needs.
Sinotruk trucks comes in 4 x 2 and 6 x 4 single and double axles, dumps, trailers, flatbed, low bed and other diverse applications.
