　　What is IHG’s plan in terms of adding new hotels?
　　Currently, we have around 4,000 rooms across 12 properties in the country. We have a pipeline of 45 hotels and just signed a joint venture with Duet Hotels for the launch of the Holiday Inn brand.
　　The venture initially involves 19 properties, but our ambition is to open 150 hotels by 2020.
　　That would cover the Intercontinental, Crown Plaza, Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express brands.
　　About 75 per cent of the pipeline of new properties are, Holiday Inn brand.

　　How different is the Indian market compared to other world markets?
　　I was based in Japan; it is the second largest outbound travel market in the world and very mature.
　　But because of that, the potential for further growth is limited. Whereas, in India it is all about growth. There are less hotel rooms in all of India than there are in Shanghai.
　　We know there are 5.5 million international travellers here every year, but there is a potential of 150 million going up to 600 million travellers moving forward.
　　There is just not enough supply of quality room stay available for so many travellers.

　　We do a great deal of evaluation. A lot of effort goes into the due diligence process.
　　Some basic activities such as buying land, which is a tall order considering the amount of legalities involved, takes a lot of energy.
　　A lot of investment is going into understanding the future customer.

　　I have noticed that the rates (including the various taxes) of Indian hotels are one of the highest in the world. If that is reduced to acceptable levels, we can attract more tourists and have more hotels which will provide more rooms and MORE employment for Indians.

　　Our infrastructure and buildings are extremely poor quality, poorly maintained, constructed and very little or no maintainance. All our puppet corrupt politicians are controlled by string. We cannot afford to keep our streets clean and tidy, the cows and stray dogs and beggers deface and urinate on the walkways/pavements and roads and our drivers are lunatics on the highway, not caring for their fellow passengers and respecting others roadusers and our trains are dirty, old, dangerous, filthy and overcrowded. Our tourists paint an extremely and negative image of our country, they deserve to go to China and Middle East instead or stay in their own country of residence.
　　We here in India still remain backwards in the secret British-colonial rule and can never prosper. Yet our so-called economy is being wasted on outdated Weapons of Mass destruction, purchased from terrorists states like Israel, USA, France etc. Unless India revolts and uprises like Tunisia, Egypt, Libya etc, she will be wiped off the map, the better Asia will be rid of her continent’s cancer and dustbin.

　　Yes, I have see other areas and three, four tier cities and rural areas in China. Let put this way. Chinese first tier cities like Shanghai, Beijing and Guangdong, Tianjing are like dream cities to indian. Second tier cities like Shenyang, Chongqing, Chengdu and so on are also dream cities to indian but indian can achieve within next 50 years. The third tiers cities like Dalian, Tangshan, Shijazhuang and so on are much better than indian first tier cities. Fourth tier cities like Lasha and Ulumuqi in China are much more like indian first tier cities. Chinese rural areas and a lot of small countryside towns are like second tier cities in india.
　　Chinese farmers are 100 times richer and their life are 100 times happier than their indian counterpart. If you can not go to these two countries, just Google it and find more pictures and data. You will find that how miserable indian especilly indian countrysides people can be

　　dear partha sarathy, i frequently (3-4 times a year)go to china for business purposes, i fully agree with david dak, regarding the state of chinese cities in comparison to indian ones. it is a fact that chinese cities like dalian,harbin,zhuhai(2nd or 3rd tier cities of china) etc are much better in every respect than chennai, bengaluru, pune etc.
　　what to speak of shanghai, beijing, guangzhou, they are atleast 25 years ahead of india’s best cities.even rural china, which has villages like huaxi,& yuwi(world’s biggest wholesale market for daily use items) are better than most of our cities.infact these so called rural areas(villages)look like urban clusters, only skyscrapers are missing.

　　That flies in the face of the World Bank report as well as the World Sanitation Congress 2009 report that say that 65 % of Indians shit in the open while only 5 % of Chinese do so !!

　　He he, the truth is India allows World Bank representatives 100% of its land area, where as Chinese Commies because of their fear of democracy allow outsiders access to only 5% of their land area. That says it all. Ask any Chinese who has fled his country to live in a democratic world and he will tell you the truth. Have you tried visiting China outside Shanghai, Beijing and Macau?

　　the world’s most prestigous hospitality brands have hotels in shanghai such as waldorf astoria, peninsula, st. regis, mandarin, accor, pullmans, kempinsky, sofitel, raffles etc. shanghai is hosting the world swimming championship in july 2011. moreover shanghai is the foremost asia-pacific city,having the world’s 3rd biggest stock exchange by volume transaction.daily international workshops/seminars are being held in shanghai,in which european, usa, australian, canadian, asian firm’s representatives participate,thus 5 star rooms are a necessity. this is not the case in india, where international events(sports,exhibitions etc)are a rarity.

　　I have noticed that the rates (including the various taxes) of Indian hotels are one of the highest in the world. If that is reduced to acceptable levels, we can attract more tourists and have more hotels which will provide more rooms and MORE employment for Indians.

　　Our infrastructure and buildings are extremely poor quality, poorly maintained, constructed and very little or no maintainance. All our puppet corrupt politicians are controlled by string. We cannot afford to keep our streets clean and tidy, the cows and stray dogs and beggers deface and urinate on the walkways/pavements and roads and our drivers are lunatics on the highway, not caring for their fellow passengers and respecting others roadusers and our trains are dirty, old, dangerous, filthy and overcrowded. Our tourists paint an extremely and negative image of our country, they deserve to go to China and Middle East instead or stay in their own country of residence.
　　We here in India still remain backwards in the secret British-colonial rule and can never prosper. Yet our so-called economy is being wasted on outdated Weapons of Mass destruction, purchased from terrorists states like Israel, USA, France etc. Unless India revolts and uprises like Tunisia, Egypt, Libya etc, she will be wiped off the map, the better Asia will be rid of her continent’s cancer and dustbin.

　　Yes, I have see other areas and three, four tier cities and rural areas in China. Let put this way. Chinese first tier cities like Shanghai, Beijing and Guangdong, Tianjing are like dream cities to indian. Second tier cities like Shenyang, Chongqing, Chengdu and so on are also dream cities to indian but indian can achieve within next 50 years. The third tiers cities like Dalian, Tangshan, Shijazhuang and so on are much better than indian first tier cities. Fourth tier cities like Lasha and Ulumuqi in China are much more like indian first tier cities. Chinese rural areas and a lot of small countryside towns are like second tier cities in india.
　　Chinese farmers are 100 times richer and their life are 100 times happier than their indian counterpart. If you can not go to these two countries, just Google it and find more pictures and data. You will find that how miserable indian especilly indian countrysides people can be

　　dear partha sarathy, i frequently (3-4 times a year)go to china for business purposes, i fully agree with david dak, regarding the state of chinese cities in comparison to indian ones. it is a fact that chinese cities like dalian,harbin,zhuhai(2nd or 3rd tier cities of china) etc are much better in every respect than chennai, bengaluru, pune etc.
　　what to speak of shanghai, beijing, guangzhou, they are atleast 25 years ahead of india’s best cities.even rural china, which has villages like huaxi,& yuwi(world’s biggest wholesale market for daily use items) are better than most of our cities.infact these so called rural areas(villages)look like urban clusters, only skyscrapers are missing.

　　He he, the truth is India allows World Bank representatives 100% of its land area, where as Chinese Commies because of their fear of democracy allow outsiders access to only 5% of their land area. That says it all. Ask any Chinese who has fled his country to live in a democratic world and he will tell you the truth. Have you tried visiting China outside Shanghai, Beijing and Macau?
