The leaders of Japan and China did not exchange congratulatory telegrams to mark the anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic ties. Japanese officials say this underlines the strained relations between the two countries over the Senkaku Islands.
Japan and China marked 40 years of normal diplomatic ties on Saturday.
A Japanese Embassy official in Beijing says Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda and Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao did not exchange telegrams on the occasion.
In 2002, then-Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi and Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji exchanged telegrams to celebrate 30 years of normal ties.
Five years later, then-Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda and Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao did the same for the 35th anniversary.
This year, Japanese Foreign Minister Koichiro Gemba and his Chinese counterpart Yang Jiechi exchanged telegrams instead of the leaders.
A Japanese Embassy official says the change in the customary event reflects the current status of bilateral ties.
Chinese media have not taken up the 40th anniversary of normal bilateral relations.
Japan nationalized the Senkaku Islands in the East China Sea earlier this month. The islands are also claimed by China and Taiwan.

不会撤大使的，1969年中苏冲突都没有撤回大使。按照TG的理论打归打谈归谈，边打边谈都可以。除非日方先撤回大使。

一觉起来，发现那个翻译外交官僚的帖子锁了，没法和你继续下去了，很遗憾。
这个真的是我表达的错误，我的原意不是撤回大使断交那种，准确的说应该是召回大使，述职。现在没有断交降级的问题，连惩猴战争的时候，都保持外交关系呢。断交撤使这是不是说干就能干的，这等大事还真的不是外交官僚能决定的，要boss们决定
