ADD started development of IR seeker for portable SAM in 1982 and completed AIM-9L class IR seeker,IRS-7,in 1991.
the IRS-7 was 7th seeker co-developed by ADD and LIG Nex1. Its diameter was 78mm.

at first, ADD planned to develop portable SAM with the IRS-7 seeker and two-color seeker for the later PIP or Product Improvement Program.
but the Army demanded the portable SAM having two-color seeker from the beginning.

so ADD decided to have technology transfer of the Russian SA-18 Igla two-color seeker. Chirons's two-color seeker is not identical with the Igla,though.
Chiron's two-color seeker was co-developed with Russian technicians from LOMO. also, Russian KBM assisted for the system development.

Chiron looks similiar to MBDA Mistral but there wasn't any technology transfer or help from France.

Chiron has a aerospike for drag reduction. the self-spinning airframe is controlled by single-axis actuator with non-asymmetric control surfaces.
with Target Adaptive Guidance and Proportional Navigation Guidance, the warhead explodes against a target flying within a radius of 1.5m.
