世界第二大金属铀供应商——加拿大Cameco Corp.公司一位官员今天表示，该公司监测的数据显示中国几家核电公司正在大规模囤积金属铀，中国已经成为该公司最大的顾客。
Cameco Corp.负责全球销售业务的副总裁George Assie说，从年初至今中国核电公司在现货市场购买的金属铀总量已经超过800万磅。金属铀是核反应堆的主要原料，同时也可以用于制造核武器。
George Assie是在一个投资者会议上做出上述表示的。他说：“要知道中国目前在建的核电站就多达13个，因此为这些即将投入运营的核电站储备原料是完全可以理解的。”他补充说，受国际金融冲击和全球商品市场下跌影响，当前金属铀价格相对便宜。
核电公司Paladin Energy Ltd营销经理Dustin Garrow说，中国已经成为全球最大金属铀进口商，中国因素也已经成为金属铀现货市场稳定的关键。他说：“毫无疑问，为了满足国内需求中国会继续增加金属铀进口量。”

As Chinese utilities stockpiled 8 million pounds of uranium so far this year, Cameco forecast its uranium revenue would increase by as much as 10% in a year when they were originally expected to decline.

RENO, NV - Based on a 35% increase in uranium revenues during the second-quarter 2009, Cameco Wednesday increased its U3O8 outlook this year from a range of 32 million pounds to 34 million pounds to a new guidance of 34 million to 36 million pounds.
"As a result, we now expect uranium revenue for 2009 to increase by 5% to 10% over 2008 compared to our previous estimate that revenue would decrease 2% to 5%," the company said in financial results published Wednesday.
During a conference call Wednesday to discuss financial results, Cameco executives told analysts and reporters that China is the single largest buyer of uranium and has purchased 8 million pounds. Half of Cameco's uranium sales were made to utility companies, one-third was purchased by traders, and one-sixth was purchased by mining companies including Cameco.
The company forecast that it will mine 20 million pounds of uranium this year.
Meanwhile, Cameco officials also announced they intend to file a shelf prospectus in Canada for offerings up to US$1 billion in senior debt. The executives told analysts they are not in an acquisition mode, but rather expect to use the proceeds to refinance all or a portion of corporate debt. Cameco estimated its total borrowing capacity to be US$1.725 billion.
Cameco reported second-quarter net earnings of C$247 (US$227 million) or 63-cents (US 58-cents) per share, up C$97 million (US$89.1m) from C$150 million ($138m) or 42-cents (US38-cents) per share for the same period of 2008.
For the first six months of 2009, Cameco reported net earnings of C$329 million (US$302m) or 85-cents per share (US 78-cents), C$45 million (US$41.3m) higher than the net earnings of C$284 million (US$261m) or 79-cents/sh (73-cents/sh) recorded in the first half of 2008.
