1906型大型鱼雷艇共建造了59艘,是公海舰队的第二大艇群。

该艇分别在3个船厂建造(Schichau, Vulcan and Germaniawerft),这些艇在尺寸和武备上有些不同,那些最大的艇差不多比最小的同型艇达三分之一,他们的前辈不同的是,这种大型鱼雷艇在1900年设计,大部分装备蒸汽轮机,头21艘仍旧装备老式的三胀式蒸汽机。这些装三胀机的艇的最高航速比装蒸汽轮机的艇的最高航速慢3节左右。
