The outside runway at Kadena Air Base reopened Friday, according to a Kadena release.
The runway closed in January for “regrooving, rubber removal, sealing of concrete joints, repair and replacement of concrete sections and repainting,” according to the release.
The repairs will decrease the risk of “foreign object damage to aircraft … and heavier aircraft can land with greater ease and perform more efficient 180-degree turns at the approach ends of the runway,” according to the release.
