歌者Mylène Farmer于1961年12月9日出生在加拿大蒙特利尔，后随父母移居法国。1986年出道至今已经发行了10张专辑，36张单曲，张张唱片销量都十分惊人。她的声音穿透力极强，空灵的唱腔像蝉翼一般薄到透明，宛如天籁。与她极为精致的清秀外表相映衬，她的吐字含糊暧昧，歌声轻盈飘逸，恍如耳边的絮语。但是在法国，她却作为一个二线歌手屈居了十多年，直到1995年歌曲《California》的诞生，才真正奠定她在法语歌坛不可动摇的天后地位。

    这首惊世的《California》收录在她1995年的专辑《Anamorphosée》中，曾连续数十周蝉联全法排行榜冠军，成为Mylène的招牌歌曲，演唱会的保留曲目。这首歌曲描述的是她对美国西部最繁华也是最阳光的加州的印象，她用近乎叙事性的音乐语言，为听众勾勒出了一幅欲望与罪恶的黑色画面。歌曲头尾由远及近的警车鸣叫声，仿佛在提醒听者，这是一个充满诱惑的世界；而Mylene Farmer那冰冷而又略带忧郁的歌声，仿佛是在安抚那些同样受伤的心灵。
