Shafaq News / The armed group that kidnapped Qatari hunters demanded on Wednesday, Saudi Arabia to release the opponent sentenced to death , Sheikh Nimr

Baqir al-Nimr as a condition for the release of 26 Qatari hunters, including Emir of Qatar.

According to a report published by "Erem" United Arab Emirates Website " armed Shiite group had kidnapped the Saudi-Qatari hunters as Saudi Arabia demanded to release Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr as a condition for the release of the hunters."

The sources added that " a Qatari Prince is among the abductees , Fahd Jassem al-Thani," noting that the kidnappers did not declare their association with an Iraqi political party.

The Iraqi Interior Ministry said in a statement that the Qatari kidnapped hunters in the desert of Samawa province have moved in vast desert areas and did not abide by the instructions of the ministry not to pass the locked areas, indicating that the abduction of hunters aimed at "insulting" the reputation of Iraq and hint that southern Iraq are unsafe areas.

The Saudi court has sentenced to death Sheikh Nimr last year on charges of "going out on obedience to the ruler (king of Saudi Arabia)", as the rule has raised a wave of indignation and condemnation in different parts of the world.

Nimr had been arrested in July 2012, one of the charges against him was, "inciting sectarian strife and being opponent to the ruler as well as the formation of a terrorist cell" to kill security men in Awwamiya town in Qatif province (eastern Saudi Arabia(

At least nine people who were part of a hunting group kidnapped in southern Iraq managed to escape and have now crossed into Kuwait, police and media said on Thursday.

A large group of unidentified armed men abducted at least 26 Qataris from their desert hunting camp near the Saudi border in the early hours of Wednesday, officials said.

"Some of the hunters, at least nine, managed to escape the camp and the kidnappers failed to spot them," Iraqi police colonel Ali Mutaiwit told Reuters on Thursday.

"Other Asian men were left in the camp by the gunmen ... The hunters and the Asians were sent by authorities to Kuwait through the Safwan border crossing," but there was still no information on the location of the others, he added.

Al-Jazeera Arabic's website said seven Qataris, a Saudi, a Kuwaiti and a number of "Asian nationals" had crossed into Kuwait. There was no immediate information on their condition.

Iraqi security forces have launched a search for the Qataris in the desolate expanse where a number of armed militia operate.

There has been no immediate claim of responsibility for the abduction.

Hunters from Gulf states often make trips to Iraq's southern desert at this time of year in search of rare prey.

26 Qatari hunters have been abducted by unknown gunmen from their hunting camp on Wednesday in Samawa desert in Muthanna Province near Saudi borders, officials say.
"An armed group driving dozens of pickup trucks kidnapped at least 26 Qatari hunters from their camp in the area of Busaya in Samawa desert near Saudi borders," Samawa governor Falih al-Zayady said.
The hunters were reportedly protected by two Iraqi officers who were also abducted. A wide-scale search for the kidnapped has been launched.
"We are talking about at least 100 gunmen armed with light and medium weapons [who] broke into the Qatari camp and abducted the hunters at around 3 a.m. local time (0000 GMT) on Wednesday, said an unnamed Iraqi police colonel."
Iraqi officials have also said that members of Qatar's ruling family are among the abductees, but have not identified them.
Hunters from various Persian Gulf countries travel to the area at this time of year for hunting.
Qatar's Foreign Ministry, meanwhile, has confirmed the incident and said it is working with the Iraqi government to secure the release of those abducted "as soon as possible."
No group or individual has so far claimed responsibility for the abduction, but militants with the Daesh Takfiri terror group that controls areas in northern and western of Iraq often travel in large numbers in convoys in the region.
A little more than three months ago, gunmen seized 18 employees of a major Turkish construction firm working in the capital, Baghdad. They were later released.
Samawa is located on the Euphrates River, about 370 kilometers (230 miles) southeast of Baghdad. Presstv reported.

TEHRAN (FNA)- There are members of Qatar’s ruling family among the Qatari hunters who were kidnapped in Iraq, according to a source in the Iraqi police.
An undetermined number of Qatar’s ruling family has been kidnapped while hunting with falcons in the Najaf Desert, a source in the Iraqi police told Sputnik on Wednesday.

On Tuesday night, a group of armed individuals dressed in military uniforms kidnapped 16 Qataris.

“Among the Qatari hunters abducted last night by armed militants were members of Qatar’s ruling family,” the source said.

According to the source, the prisoners were taken away in an unknown direction. Security forces have launched an investigation into the incident, searching for those abducted.

The source said that the ruling family arrived in Iraq two weeks ago.

“They come to Iraq every year in December and stay there for 30 days to hunt,” the source said.

During the rule of Saddam Hussein in Iraq, such trips were organized with the support of the local security services. After his overthrow, the number of trips to Iraq by Qatari hunters has decreased due to security concerns.

The House of Thani has been the ruling family of Qatar since 19th century.
