Around 2 thousand residents of Okinawa gathered outside the local administration, demanding withdrawal of the U.S. Air Force Base from this Japanese island.
On the eve, Governor Hirokazu Nakaima approved of the government's plan to relocate the base within the prefecture. The Agreement provides for the redeployment of Futenma air base located near Okinawa’s Ginnovan City, to the town of Nago in the same prefecture. The agreement was concluded in 2006, but after coming to power in 2009, the Democratic Party of Japan, has repeatedly undertaken attempts to reconsider the question of moving the base and relocating it outside Okinawa. However, the U.S. is strongly against this notion.
大约2千名冲绳当地居民聚集在当地政府机关前，要求就将该岛上的美国空军基地撤走。
前一天晚上，冲绳县地方长官仲井真弘多就已批准了将基地迁至辖区内其他地区的计划。日本在2006年便已做出协定，打算将冲绳岛Ginnovan城附近的普天间基地迁往名护市，两地都仍属于冲绳岛辖区内。然而民主党在上台后曾多次试图重提基地搬迁一事，有意让美军基地彻底迁出冲绳。此事招来了美国的强烈反对。
