Hong Kong (CNN) -- The Philippines said Wednesday that its largest naval vessel isengaged in a standoff with two Chinese maritime surveillance ships in a remotelagoon in the South China Sea.
The Philippine Department of Foreign Affairssaid the country's navy had sent the BRP Gregorio del Pilar, a 378-foot cutter,to the area of Scarborough Shoal on Sunday after surveillance aircraft spottedeight Chinese fishing boats anchored inside the lagoon.

CNN报道—菲律宾表示其最大的海军军舰于周三在南中国海偏远列岛上的舄湖*附近与中国两艘海监船对峙。

China and the Philippines both claim thatScarborough Shoal, about 200 kilometers west of the Philippine mainland, is"an integral part" of their territory.
A boarding team from the Gregorio del Pilarwent to inspect the Chinese fishing boats Tuesday morning and found "largeamounts of illegally collected corals, giant clams and live sharks" insideone of the boats, the Department of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

中国和菲律宾都宣称拥有黄岩岛（菲律宾本土以西约200公里）的主权，皆称“其岛是该国不可分割的一部分”。

The situation remained thesame Wednesday morning, the Philippine statement said.
The Philippine foreign minister, Albert DelRosario, is seeking a "diplomatic solution" to the situation withChina, the statement said.

Vietnam,for it's part, has been Russia's largest arms customer in recent years,stocking up on the latest Russian anti ship missiles, SU-30 Flankers, and Russianand Dutch combat ships, including license producing a Russian designed missilearmed corvette.  The Vietnamese give noindication they intend to back down, nor does China.  It will be an interesting summer in the SouthChina Sea.  The Chinese are arrogant andaggressive with everyone but the US and Japan, because ours are the only twonavies in the region China could not dominate at this point.   Few in the US are aware of the ridiculousclaims China makes in the region or the potential for conflict in the region.
