The rig is Transocean’s first ultra-deepwater drillship owned by its joint venture with Pacific Drilling. Dhirubhai Deepwater KG1 was formerly Deepwater Pacific 1. In October 2007, Transocean announced that a subsidiary exercised its option to purchase a 50 percent interest in a joint venture company with Pacific Drilling, which owns the drillship.Meanwhile, newbuild semisubmersible PetroRig I, which was delivered April 14 from Jurong Shipyard in Singapore, is in port completing remaining punchlist items. The rig will then head to the U.S. Gulf of Mexico for Petrobras for a five-year contract with an option to extend for another five years. The contract begins this July.
