华盛顿州的圣.海仑丝火山

http://www.spaceimaging.com/gallery/top10_2003/top10_6.htm

This one-meter resolution satellite image was collected by Space Imaging's IKONOS satellite on Sept. 13, 2003. The image shows Mount St. Helens, part of the 110,000-acre National Volcanic Monument in southwest Washington. An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale was centered one mile beneath the long-dormant Mount St. Helens' volcano and triggered an eruption on May 18, 1980. According to the USGS Cascades Volcano Observatory, the eruption destroyed the top 1,314 feet (400.5 meters) of the 9,677-foot (2,950-meters) peak, and within 15 minutes spewed approximately 1,000 tons of ash 80,000 feet (24,000 meters) into the atmosphere. During the nine-hour eruption, the north face of the mountain collapsed into the largest recorded landslide in history and buried Spirit Lake and the north fork of Toutle River with an average depth of 150 feet (45.7 meters) of debris. The volcano destroyed nearly 230 square miles (596 square kilometers) of forest and left behind a gray, moon-like landscape. Vegetation is still recovering from the disaster. The image could be used to map future environmental mitigation efforts, and monitor vegetation growth through change detection.
