According to the article there are 1380 operational satellites orbiting the Earth. But the ESA says there's 500000 satellites and other 'space junk' sailing around in space. That sounds about right to me. I wonder what they would classify as 'space junk'?

I just wanted to add something more. I didn't read the captions under one of the photos supplied by the European Space Agency. According to the article there are 1380 operational satellites orbiting the Earth. But the ESA says there's 500000 satellites and other 'space junk' sailing around in space. That sounds about right to me. I wonder what they would classify as 'space junk'?
