Turkey’s Thai Embassy has been closed over demonstrations that were held about the 100 Uighurs deported from China.

The embassy in Ankara and the consulate in Istanbul have been temporarily shut after the consulate was stormed by Uighur supporters on Thursday.

Rights groups have criticised the deportation of Muslim Uighurs saying they face persecution in China.

China denies repressing Uighurs and called the deportees illegal migrants.

There have been days of unrest in Turkey over reports of Uighurs in western China being restricted by the Chinese government from observing the holy month of Ramadan.

Uighurs have close cultural and religious ties with Turkish Muslims.

Protests outside the Chinese embassy have seen Chinese flags burnt and on Thursday police fired pepper spray at demonstrators.

Reports came in of Chinese citizens being harassed and attacked and China issued a travel warning to its citizens travelling to Turkey.

A group which had gathered in front of Thailand's embassy in Turkey's capital of Ankara to protest Bangkok's expulsion of nearly 100 Uighur Muslims back to China attacked a woman they thought was Chinese on Thursday.

The woman was walking in front of the protesters when she got attacked by the angry group. Police officers intervened and took her to safety.
The Doan news agency said the woman was a tourist but her nationality was not known.

Protests have been held across Turkey over the last week to condemn bans imposed on religious practices by the predominantly Muslim Uighur people in China's far western region of Xinjiang, or East Turkistan as is known in Turkey, and the killings of Uighurs by Chinese police. During the protests, a Chinese restaurant, its owner Turkish and its cook ironically Uighur, was vandalized, while a group of Korean tourists mistaken for Chinese citizens were attacked in stanbul's historic Sultanahmet district.
