Saudi Special Forces engaged in violent clashes with armed Houthis at the border areas of Khoba, Jabal Al-Dukhan and Jabal Rumaih in Jizan, located near the Kingdom's border with Yemen, an Al-Jazeera correspondent reported.

The correspondent also noted that the Saudi forces thwarted Houthi attempts to infiltrate the Saudi border, adding that intermittent clashes between the two sides continued throughout the night.

Apache helicopters carried out air operations to stop the attempts to infiltrate the Saudi border and bombed clusters of armed Houthi fighters, he said. The helicopters also carried out sweep operations across the western side of the mountain range separating the two countries adjacent to Jizan.

A number of mortar and RPG missiles targeted the area surrounding the Saudi military sites in Jizan, while a number of Katyusha rockets were fired on Jizan, targeting residential areas in the centre of the city.

The Renewal of Hope coalition announced on Monday that two Saudi soldiers were killed in Asir, in south Saudi Arabia. They died as a result of missiles fired from Yemen. This was two days after they announced the death of four Saudi military officials during the Saudi forces' thwarting of a large-scale attack launched by forces loyal to ousted President Ali Abdullah Saleh and the Houthis on military sites in Najran and Jizan.

Yesterday and after the Saudi officials released the news on the death of the country's air force commander as a result of a heart attack, sources in New York challenged the Saudi news agency's report, saying the General was killed in Yemen's missile attacks.

The official Saudi Press Agency had quoted the Ministry of Defense as saying on Wednesday that Shaalan died of a heart attack during a work trip outside the kingdom.

But an informed Yemeni source who called for anonymity said in New York on Wednesday that "Shaalan was killed in the Yemeni army's missile attacks against Saudi Arabia's Khamees al-Mushait region five days earlier".

The Yemeni army targeted Amir Khalid military base in Khamees al-Mushait region by a Scud missile earlier this week.

The Saudi army claimed that it had intercepted the Scud by two Patriot missiles, but the Arabic-language Al-Mayadeen news channel showed footage of the missile attack, reporting that it had hit the target.

Following the attack the Saudi army evacuated the passenger terminals of two airports in the nearby areas.

Also, Arab media reports said earlier that two Saudi military bases in the bordering areas came under missile attack by the Yemeni forces.

Al-Mayadeen quoted a military source in Yemen as saying that the army and popular forces targeted the two military bases of Ain al-Harrah and Malhamah with 10 and 7 missiles, respectively, on Tuesday.

The Yemeni forces also fired 11 missiles at military positions behind Jabal al-Dokhan in the Southwestern city of Jizan.

On Sunday, media reports said that the Saudis, including Royal family members, were in a rush to flee the country after Yemen's first Scud missile hit a military airbase in Saudi Arabia's South on Saturday.

"The Saudi residents of Khamees al-Mushait are waiting in a several-kilometer-long trail of cars to flee after their city was hit by Yemeni Scud missiles," the Arabic-language Sa'ada Press news website reported.

Reports said the Yemeni soldiers have made huge, but easy gains in their battle against the monarchy's troops in Najran heights, forcing them to escape the the battlefront in disordered fashion.

The reports added that the kingdom's forces have deserted their posts in the region, retreating from their territories.

Dispatches said several attempts by ranking Saudi commanders to rearrange the troops to form new frontlines miles back deep into the Saudi territories have failed.

Two soldiers have told tribal settlers that they have seen comrades shot in the back by senior officers to dissuade the chaotic escape from the battlefield.

Most Saudi soldiers and low ranking officers are either from Yemeni tribes or from Yemeni descent.

Earlier today, the Yemeni troops warned off Saudi soldiers as they approached to recapture Jizan's military base that has recently fell into the hands of Ansarullah popular fighters.

The reports added that the Saudi troops carried out an attack to gain control over a military base in al-Tawaliq Mountain area, but were pushed back by the Yemeni fighters.

The entire military equipment of the Saudi forces including 4 tanks was destroyed and the soldiers fled the battlefield during the counterattack that ended up in complete fiasco.

Earlier, Yemen's Ansarullah fighters seized control over al-Tawaliq military base during a retaliatory attack.  

Yemeni tribal forces, backed by army units and Ansarullah fighters, have launched a series of new attacks on the Saudi border cities in retaliation for Saudi Arabia’s ongoing aggression against the impoverished Arab country.

Saudi Arabia shot down a Scud missile fired into the kingdom by Yemen's dominant Houthi group and its army allies on Saturday, according to the Saudi state news agency, in a major escalation of two months of war.
