(Reuters) - President Barack Obama said on Thursday the United States is concerned China uses its "sheer size and muscle" to push around smaller countries in the South China Sea.

His comments come after China defended its construction of artificial islands in the South China Sea, saying it is needed to safeguard its sovereignty in the mineral-rich waters where China's territorial claims overlap those of Vietnam, the Philippines, Malaysia, Brunei and Taiwan.

Chinese officials said the reclamation work would be used for military defence and to provide services that would benefit other countries. The U.S. State Department said the activity was causing anxiety in the region about China's intentions.

China's sovereignty claims over the stretch of water off its south coast and to the east of mainland Southeast Asia set it directly against U.S. allies Vietnam and the Philippines, while Brunei, Taiwan and Malaysia also have claims.

China knows too well how to fight a war if they had too. Looking back into history from the 1890's, China was bullied by many nations. They knows they had to be strong and they knows how was it like to bullied by the west.
US have fought too many wars but never win except to beat the Japanese. US did not even win the Korean wars, Vietnam wars, Middle east war let alone fight with the Chinese or the Russians. US can only bully the small nation, it is not even in good terms with its Southern neighbouring nations let alone police the world. US can only talk big with the bigger nation because of its inferiority complex.
中国非常了解如何打仗，他们太擅长这点。回顾1890年历史，不难看出。他们受到来自西方侵略者的欺负，所以他们要变得强大，从而不再被欺负。

Or in short there are no Particular International laws in China that should be followed for. Because if ever they will follow those laws, I'm sure they will be not became victorious. they are in denial and using power tripping to those small claimants.

Its interesting how some people question why the US does not send its ground troops to exterminate the ISIS, but when comes to China, these same people criticise the US for being a warmonger or bully or troublemaker or whatever.
I am sure most of these "people" are PRC (considering there are around a million of them here in Singapore), by which I can understand their biases. However, I feel that those
grandfather/mother came from China and therefore have an "allegiance" to their great-ancestral motherland. That's just plain unthinking and stupid actually.
I am a Chinese, but that's ONLY my race, nothing more. I am SINGAPOREAN first and foremost!! My parents, BOTH of them, were also born IN SINGAPORE. Their parents, my grandparents (RIP) all 4 of them, were also born IN SINGAPORE.
Beyond that, it doesn't really impact me in ANY way.
So don't keep playing the "ancestral" card. Its old and tiresome.

In any case, I rather have the US "policing" the seas of Asia, particularly the South China Sea, than China.
One can never trust a country that is hegemonistic by nature and that has territorial disputes with so many countries, such as Japan, India, Philippines, Vietnam (once its greatest ally!!), and even Russia at one time. And look at Tibet, a sovereign nation in its own right! Just because China invaded and conquered it many many years ago, its now considered "part of China." This is really China's hegemonistic culture and behavior. Despite their thoroughly UNWANTED occupation of Tibet, China is arrogantly adamant on NOT relinquishing their invasion of Tibet.
THIS is what will happen to many other smaller and weaker countries in SE Asia if not for the presence of the US.
So, PLEASE USA, STAY in Asia.
