BEIJING: China on Friday sought the United Nations' intervention to rein in the US amid global outrage over whistleblower Edward Snowden's revelations about American surveillance on phone and internet communications.

"We will maintain that relevant international regulations should be made within the framework of the United Nations, and we have made specific proposals," Chinese foreign ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said at a regular media briefing.

北京：告密者斯诺登揭露美国监控电话和网络通信引发全球愤怒之际，中国寻求联合国干预并制止美国的这一行为。

中国外交部女发言人华春莹在一次例行记者会上说道：“我们主张在联合国框架内制定相关国际规则，并提出了具体倡议。”

She said the international community should come up with these regulations on cyber security. "What cyberspace needs is not war or hegemony, not irresponsible attacks or accusations but regulation and cooperation.''

Hua said Snowden's expose had vindicated China, which has repeatedly said it was one of the major victims of cyber attacks. "My ministry has recently set up an office on cyber affairs to provide security in diplomatic dealings,'' Hua said. "China takes the issue very seriously."

她说，国际社会应当提出网络安全规则。“网络空间需要的不是战争或霸权，不是不负责任的攻击或指责，而是规则与合作。”

The spokeswoman continued to evade questions about the extradition of Snowden, who is currently in Hong Kong.

"I have no information on that. We will continue to follow developments in this case," she said.

All right minded countries should support China in this proposal to the UN to rein in the global bully and selfish US in the fight to snooping on all countries. Just imagine if India or China planted bases and warships all around the US , they would go ballistic and make a huge ruckus and will in all certainty attack them . First of all, US policy is that rules, laws,regulations apply only to other nations and not to itself. It thinks it is above all established laws of the land becuase it has moral superiority, at least thats what it thinks and brags about it. China. Sigh! This country is really a messed up country that lifts up its head every time there is a conflict of interest. Since majority of cyber crimes originate in China of course they won't like US's surveillance on phone and Internet communications. Not only that, the chinese are nosiest and nastiest intruders that spy on almost every country of this world via every means of communicaitons.

May be they talk and chat to spy on world around the clock they don't want US to find out about their actions. In any case I feel the only country that can see china eye to eye is US just because of US's powerful position in the world. May be china wants that position.
