The Canadian Air Force has as few as two of its 18 CP-140 Aurora maritime patrol aircraft (Canada's version of the Lockheed Martin P-3) available to patrol what is (in terms of land mass and surrounding waters) the largest country in the world. Storm Shadow marks RAF's move to a precision force
With the recent use of the Storm Shadow and AGM-65 Maverick in Iraq, the UK Royal Air Force (RAF) has completed its transformation into a fully expeditionary force with a complete range of precision strike weapons, said Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal (ACM) Sir Peter Squire on 4 April. The increase in offensive weaponry brings the UK capability up to the standards set by the US Air Force, he said.

Canada's Aurora Challenge
The Canadian Air Force has as few as two of its 18 CP-140 Aurora maritime patrol aircraft (Canada's version of the Lockheed Martin P-3) available to patrol what is (in terms of land mass and surrounding waters) the largest country in the world. The lack of aircraft is a direct consequence of the challenge the service has undertaken as it upgrades its fleet of 23-year-old CP-140 Auroras while trying to meet domestic commitments and training requirements, at the same time as it maintains a deployment in the United Arab Emirates as part of the war against terrorism.

The number of aircraft cleared to use Boeing's global positioning system (GPS)-guided Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) family continues to increase. On 1 March, Grumman F-14D Tomcats of the US Navy (USN) dropped their first GBU-31(V)4/B JDAM 'in anger', and on 31 March the US Air Force (USAF) started flight testing the GBU-38 version of JDAM on its Northrop Grumman B-2 Spirit.
