Russian Vladimir Chagin (Kamaz) won on Saturday the first special stage of the legendary off-road Dakar Rally in Buenos Aires, bringing his record of special stage victories in the truck category to 48, the official website of the rally said.
The Russian team's Kamaz covered first 251 kilometers (156 miles) of the route in 2 hours, 35 minutes and 47 seconds, just 27 seconds faster than Czech driver Ales Loprais's Tatra. Another Kamaz, driven by Russian Firdaus Kabirov, took third place, trailing the leader by 4 minutes.
Spaniard Nani Roma grabbed the leadership in the car category, Frenchman David Casteu was the fastest among the bikers, and Poland's Rafal Sonik won the first stage of the rally in the quad category.
The Russian team already has seven winning titles from the legendary off-road rally. Vladimir Chagin has so far won the race five times.

Chagin's Kamaz covered the distance in 4 hours, 35 minutes and 7 seconds on Sunday. Another Russia's Kamaz, driven by Firdaus Kabirov, was second in the race, trailing the leader by 3 minutes.
On Saturday, Chagin also won the first special stage of the rally, covering 251 kilometers (156 miles) of the route in 2 hours, 35 minutes and 47 seconds, just 27 seconds faster than Czech driver Ales Loprais's Tatra.
Kabirov was third in the first special stage.

Russian Vladimir Chagin (Kamaz) has won the third special stage of the legendary off-road Dakar Rally in Buenos Aires.
Chagin's Kamaz truck covered the 182-km (113-mile) distance in 3 hours, 26 minutes and 53 seconds on Monday. Another Russian Kamaz, driven by Firdaus Kabirov, was second in the race, trailing the leader by some 12 minutes.
On Saturday and Sunday, Chagin, who turns 40 on January 5, won the first and second special stages of the rally. Monday's victory was his 50th in Dakar stages.
After three stages of the rally, Chagin is 18 minutes and 43 seconds ahead of Karibov, who is second in the general classification. Brazilian Andre de Azevedo is on third place, more than an hour behind Chagin.
