国际编程大赛中，中俄的表现，让美国同行的感触!

新闻网专讯：无论是算法编程还是程序设计，来自中国和俄罗斯的编程人员在一次国际性的编程比赛中遥遥领先。这个结果又会引起人们讨论美国的数学和科学教育是否需要改进这个议题。但是事实是：在进入最后决赛的70名选手中，20人来自中国，10人来自俄罗斯，但只有2人来自美国。

共有4200人参与了这个由美国国家安全局（National Security Agency， NSA)资助的比赛。NSA赞助该项比赛已经有些年月了，因为它想从中挑选那些有较高技能的人。834名中国人参与了这次比赛，其次是印度人，共有705 人，但印度没有一个人进入最后决赛。俄罗斯有380 名参与者，美国有234人，波兰有214人，; 埃及有145人乌克兰有128人。

Yes, math and science education in China and Eastern Europe is still top notch on the planet but Western world should be patient because things are changing fast. Guess what, they are all fascinated by the American education system and they are blindly adopting it. At least that's what they're doing almost everywhere in Eastern Europe. To them it's so cool and they no longer want to torture poor students with maths and sciences. Anyway it's a long sad story for those who still believe in real science.

Yeah, we're (U.S.) too busy teaching social studies and political correctness in school to teach hard science, math and critical thinking.

So we come out of public school knowing how we should feel socially, but unable to do simple algebra.

Public school in the U.S. is a joke. It's a baby-sitting service, set up so the socialized adults can leave their children somewhere so they can go to work.
Read the excerpt from Hacker's and Painters by Paul Graham. It's very enlightening.

The impact on the Western world so far has been mitigated by the steady stream of highly educated brains coming from Easter Europe and Asia. By adopting the American education system Eastern Europeans and Chinese dig their own grave because they will not have the chance to import brains from outside. The consequences could be devastating.

直到现在，西方世界的（坏）影响被稳定的来自东欧和亚洲的受到很高教育的智力输入所缓和。采用美国的教育体系，东欧和中国就会为自掘坟墓。因为他们不能指望外部的智力输入。（对他们来说）结果将是灾难性的。

In my kids' high school, the students from Indian- and other Asian-American families are the ones taking AP math and science courses as sophomores (and sometimes as freshmen), and are generally taking 6-7 AP courses at a time. But then there are also stories that oftentimes, these kids are forced into these workloads by their parents (including rumors of some being locked in their rooms for mandatory 4-5 hour study/homework marathons). In the end, it's these same kids who end up as class valedictorians, win the academic scholarships, etc., so I don't know how you compete with that unless you force your own child to go thru the same experience.

Where is India? not even a single finalist out of 705 participants? what a waste of money of sending them there.

Btw, the Americans can argue whatever they want, the truth is their education is backward. Sure its universities are top class, but that only because the universities are open to foreigners.
