<Kanwa News Aug 30, 2003> Kanwa has discovered that the first Type 054 frigate is being built at an abnormally fast pace. The Type 054 building plan has obviously fallen behind that of 052B and 052C DDGs. The reason is that in the cross-sea landing assault operations, as long as the Taiwanese warships do not get into the Taiwan Strait waters, the deterrence the Taiwanese large warships pose to the Chinese invasion will be very limited. Once occupying Taiwan, these large vessels can become the spoils of the war.
