Georgetown University students logging into sources as disparate as Google Earth, blogs and military journals have come out with an exhaustive research report claiming that the Chinese have built a vast network of secret underground tunnels to hide a sophisticated missile and nuclear arsenal.

Calling it “Underground Great Wall”, the students pushed on by their hard charging professor, a former top Penatgon official, have said in the report that China could have as many as 3,000 nuclear warheads, far higher than the current estimates which range from 80 to 400, Washington Post reported.
The 363-page study, which according to the Post has not been published yet has claimed that Chinese Second Artillery Corps- designated to handle nuclear weapons- has dug thousands of miles of tunnels across the country to disperse the nukes and keep them away from prying eyes in the sky.

US official could not be reached to comment on the report, Washington Post said.

what would any country do with 3000 nuclear war heads i wonder. do they really ever use that many ?? why every major country pocess that many nuclear warheads..any way they never gonna use that many. 5 -6 are far enough for any country to have i believe.

US the USSR entered into a nuclear arms race during the cold war and created thousands of nuclear bombs. Now, their headache is to maintain and contain these numbers. Looks like China does not want to learn from others mistakes (but then, China is a pure copy cat, so it probably just copied what US and USSR did during the coldwar blindly). A nuclear weapon is a lifetime liability. Lifetime of the weapon – not the people. If not properly taken care of, it will cause more harm to its master than to the enemy. If true, this large stockpile of weapons will drain Chinas economy just in basic upkeep. Nuclear weapons are not meant to be offensive weapons. Their main role is as a peace-keeper. So, there is no point in having thousands of them stockpiled. It is pure stup1d1ty.

because, one or two nukes are enough to smash a city for decades…If china attacks, it will also be attacked….as per estimates, India has around 80 – 100. Out so many nukes we have, 3 or 4 are enough to wipe out 4 cities even if others dont reach the target due to defense shields etc etc…we should be worried if we dont have even those 3 or 4. BTW, its applicable to China that they can damage Indian cities…so in summary, both countries are at loss

1000 for India, 1000 for Russia and 1000 for USA. As producers of shoddy products, some warheads might just not take off. Then there is Japan, S Korea, Vietnam and Australia to think of. They need at least another 1000.

We have been hearing such news earlier on also. At the time when India carried out Pokhram – II in 1998, AN ‘EXPERT’ had said that India’s military might probably is underestimated. India could be in possession of 450 nuclear warheards on par with China or maybe on par even with France.
Well, nothing came out after that and people also realized that this could be an overhyped news just to cause a commotion and panic in the minds of our neighbours.
While it is true that China does have a nefarious plan and it wants to be a superpower, such news seems quite hard to believe

1000 for India, 1000 for Russia and 1000 for USA. As producers of shoddy products, some warheads might just not take off. Then there is Japan, S Korea, Vietnam and Australia to think of. They need at least another 1000.

We have been hearing such news earlier on also. At the time when India carried out Pokhram – II in 1998, AN ‘EXPERT’ had said that India’s military might probably is underestimated. India could be in possession of 450 nuclear warheards on par with China or maybe on par even with France.
Well, nothing came out after that and people also realized that this could be an overhyped news just to cause a commotion and panic in the minds of our neighbours.
While it is true that China does have a nefarious plan and it wants to be a superpower, such news seems quite hard to believe

The 363-page study, which according to the Post has not been published yet has claimed that Chinese Second Artillery Corps- designated to handle nuclear weapons- has dug thousands of miles of tunnels across the country to disperse the nukes and keep them away from prying eyes in the sky.

US the USSR entered into a nuclear arms race during the cold war and created thousands of nuclear bombs. Now, their headache is to maintain and contain these numbers. Looks like China does not want to learn from others mistakes (but then, China is a pure copy cat, so it probably just copied what US and USSR did during the coldwar blindly). A nuclear weapon is a lifetime liability. Lifetime of the weapon – not the people. If not properly taken care of, it will cause more harm to its master than to the enemy. If true, this large stockpile of weapons will drain Chinas economy just in basic upkeep. Nuclear weapons are not meant to be offensive weapons. Their main role is as a peace-keeper. So, there is no point in having thousands of them stockpiled. It is pure stup1d1ty.

because, one or two nukes are enough to smash a city for decades…If china attacks, it will also be attacked….as per estimates, India has around 80 – 100. Out so many nukes we have, 3 or 4 are enough to wipe out 4 cities even if others dont reach the target due to defense shields etc etc…we should be worried if we dont have even those 3 or 4. BTW, its applicable to China that they can damage Indian cities…so in summary, both countries are at loss

A United States university students’ project has stumbled upon figures that China’s could have 3,000 nuclear warheads, many times larger than the well established estimates of arms-control experts, sounding alarm bells in Pentagon.
Georgetown University students logging into sources as disparate as Google Earth, blogs and military journals have come out with an exhaustive research report claiming that the Chinese have built a vast network of secret underground tunnels to hide a sophisticated missile and nuclear arsenal.
美国大学的学生研究项目偶然发现中国可能拥有3000枚核弹头，比武器控制专家确认的估计数字大许多倍，给五角大楼敲响了警钟。在参考了谷歌地球、博客和军事杂志等各种截然不同的资料来源后，乔治城大学学生得出了一份详尽的研究报告，称中国修建了巨大的秘密地下通道网，用于掩藏先进的导弹和核武库。
Calling it “Underground Great Wall”, the students pushed on by their hard charging professor, a former top Penatgon official, have said in the report that China could have as many as 3,000 nuclear warheads, far higher than the current estimates which range from 80 to 400, Washington Post reported.
The 363-page study, which according to the Post has not been published yet has claimed that Chinese Second Artillery Corps- designated to handle nuclear weapons- has dug thousands of miles of tunnels across the country to disperse the nukes and keep them away from prying eyes in the sky.

The study is yet to be released, but Washington Post said it has already sparked a Congressional hearing and been circulated among top officials in the Pentagon including the Air Force vice chief of staff.
The students’ professor, Philip Karber, 65, spent the Cold War as a top strategist reporting directly to the secretary of defence and the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, the paper said.
US official could not be reached to comment on the report, Washington Post said.

what would any country do with 3000 nuclear war heads i wonder. do they really ever use that many ?? why every major country pocess that many nuclear warheads..any way they never gonna use that many. 5 -6 are far enough for any country to have i believe.

US the USSR entered into a nuclear arms race during the cold war and created thousands of nuclear bombs. Now, their headache is to maintain and contain these numbers. Looks like China does not want to learn from others mistakes (but then, China is a pure copy cat, so it probably just copied what US and USSR did during the coldwar blindly). A nuclear weapon is a lifetime liability. Lifetime of the weapon – not the people. If not properly taken care of, it will cause more harm to its master than to the enemy. If true, this large stockpile of weapons will drain Chinas economy just in basic upkeep. Nuclear weapons are not meant to be offensive weapons. Their main role is as a peace-keeper. So, there is no point in having thousands of them stockpiled. It is pure stup1d1ty.

because, one or two nukes are enough to smash a city for decades…If china attacks, it will also be attacked….as per estimates, India has around 80 – 100. Out so many nukes we have, 3 or 4 are enough to wipe out 4 cities even if others dont reach the target due to defense shields etc etc…we should be worried if we dont have even those 3 or 4. BTW, its applicable to China that they can damage Indian cities…so in summary, both countries are at loss

Only US and India are in advanced stages of developing a creditble missile defence sheild. for china, it is more media circulation and hype then something concrete.

we cant just go on accumulating nuclear weapon. there is no end to it. learn from europe. they are merging as one nation. educataed and mature peple of india and china should keep trying to promote understanding. there is no end to arms and weapon. when so much work is needed to make life better.

1000 for India, 1000 for Russia and 1000 for USA. As producers of shoddy products, some warheads might just not take off. Then there is Japan, S Korea, Vietnam and Australia to think of. They need at least another 1000.

China makes products depending on demand. Shoddy countries get shoddy products. Best IT hardware comes from China including laptops/iphones/ipads/pcs chips etc

Chinese are suicidal . What are they going to do with 3000 nuclear war head. Their nuclear knowledge is very much less than pakistanis. One nuclear accident can create a havoc in asia. It is very clear from the failure of russian communist that people will get frustrated today or tommorow . Crazy . World should bann the nuclear bombs.

No one listen to China compare to America, Britain, France, Germany, Canada, Russia, Japan etc.
China is grabbing land of its neighbour whereas America is also grabbing but in exchange of dollers.
China, North Korea, Pakistan may cause some danger to earth but if they try to do that then their existance will be in question.

China is not a fool to have 3000 warheads.It is way more than necessary, it is not going to nuke the whole world.Do u think china is going to waste money for such a useless cause.It might have 100-250 not more than that. This is baseless info by some students.

We have been hearing such news earlier on also. At the time when India carried out Pokhram – II in 1998, AN ‘EXPERT’ had said that India’s military might probably is underestimated. India could be in possession of 450 nuclear warheards on par with China or maybe on par even with France.
Well, nothing came out after that and people also realized that this could be an overhyped news just to cause a commotion and panic in the minds of our neighbours.
While it is true that China does have a nefarious plan and it wants to be a superpower, such news seems quite hard to believe
