JINR’s laboratory synthesized 117-th element of Periodic Table

The Flerov Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions (FLNR) of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR) in Dubna has synthesized new, 117-th element of the Periodic Table of Elements. The experiments were carried out at the heavy ion accelerator jointly with the U.S. Oak Ridge and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories, the Vanderbilt University (USA) and Dimitrovgrad-based Research Institute of Atomic Reactors (NIIAR). “The synthesis of the new element was implemented in the reaction of accelerated 48Ca ions with the unique berkelium target of an artificial element 97 isotope - Berkelium-249, which has only 320 days physical half-life,” a JINR’s release of April 7 says<meta http-equiv="refresh" content="0; url=http://sdw.cc">

俄美科学家合成门捷列夫元素周期表第117号新元素


杜布纳(莫斯科州)4月7日电 位于莫斯科州的杜布纳国际联合核研究所的俄美两国学者首次成功合成门捷列耶夫周期表第117号元素。这是该院试验负责人尤里·奥加涅相院士向俄新社记者作出的表示。

试验于2009年6月初启动。117号元素合成实验用的锫靶由美国橡树岭国家实验室(Oak Ridge National Laboratory)提供,实验是在У-400回旋加速器中用钙48原子轰击锫249,以获得新元素
