China’s next generation nuclear attack submarine, the Type 093, is expected to enter service in 2005. • China is acquiring eight additional KILO-class diesel electric submarines from Russia to augment the four previously purchased units. The new KILOs will include the advanced SS-N-27 ASCM, and wire-guided and wake-homing torpedoes.
