MD Helicopters Inc (MDHI) has developed a second-generation of its MD 530 Little Bird that it intends to offer as an interim solution while the company continues to develop the MD 540, a spokesperson disclosed on 23 January.

Speaking at the IQPC International Military Helicopter conference in London, Perry Orr, Managing Director Middle East and Africa at MDHI, said the company is building on the already available and fielded MD 530 (he designated this aircraft MD 530G [Generation] I, saying that the more commonly used MD 530F moniker was in fact for the commercial variant helicopter) with the improved MD 530G II. This has been done to fill a capability gap while work on the MD 540 (now designated MD 540A for the same reason) continues.

According to Perry, the primary differences between the two generations of the MD 530 are an increased take-off weight that comes with the provision of a new high-capacity landing gear, as well as enhanced systems and weapons capabilities.

"The second-generation we are currently rolling out is much more advanced than our original configuration. We have added a high-capacity landing gear to increase the maximum take-off gross weight from 3,100 lb [1,406 kg] to 3,750 lb [1,701 kg], with 3,350 lb [of this] internal," he said, adding: "That's a significant increase that equals more fuel, ammunition, and mission capability."

The new weapons plank and increased weight capacity have enabled MDHI to integrate the M3P 12.7 mm (.50 calibre) machine gun (the first-generation MD 530 was fitted with the smaller M134 7.62mm [.30 calibre] Gatlin gun), and laser-guided rockets. "We are currently working with the lock-on-after-launch systems of [laser-guided] rockets, as they are easily fired from the 70 mm Hydra rocket tubes. Our intent, though, is to integrate any such system that the customer desires. What you won't see is Hellfire integration, down to weight constraints on the 530. It will be on the 540, though," Perry said.

Improvements in the cockpit include a large-area multi-functional display unit on the left, which displays all of the armament management systems, with the Garmin 500 systems on the right displaying flight information for the pilot. Perry noted that these positions can be reversed, depending on how the customer wants the aircraft to be configured.

An optional helmet-mounted display is also being integrated, although this is really being pushed for the MD 540 platform.

According to Perry, all of these enhancements have greatly improved the MD 530. "There's now a much greater capability that you can take forward into the fight with the second-generation aircraft," he enthused.

MDHI is currently undertaking "a full-blown effort" to have the MD 530G II completely tested and ready for delivery by the final quarter of this year, according to Perry. While Perry declined to name potential customers for the MD 530G II, he did say that MDHI is in discussions with a couple of potential operators in Africa and the Middle East.

On the subject of the MD 540A, Perry said that MDHI now expects certification in 2015 to have it ready for delivery in fiscal year 2016, but added that no customers have yet been signed up. "The 540 is a developmental effort at this point that is a little too far out for military customers to commit," he explained.

The MD 540A builds on the MD 530G in that it is fitted with a more powerful Rolls-Royce M250-C47E3 turboshaft engine (rated to 600 shp), a six-bladed main rotor (compared to five blades for the earlier aircraft) taken from the MD 600N helicopter and rated up to a 4,100 lb (1,860 kg) maximum take-off weight, and the ability to carry the AGM-114 Hellfire air-to-surface missile.

直升机业务有些早被波音转手卖掉了,现在波音手里掌握的麦道/休斯系的直升机主要是AH-64阿帕奇和AH-6小鸟了。麦道直升机转过几次手,2005年7月已经独立门户了,现在主要靠500家族和600、900等衍生型号过日子。

ec120不能算装备,只是装备陆航训练基地,只能算按设备购买,而不是统一装备
MD直升机公司不等于麦道直升机,
这里的MD并不是麦道的缩写,就只是MD两个字母.
